Tow Vehicle Colors?

When my parents bought their first truck and TT years back my Mom made it a point to get a red truck. She felt it was important to have a truck color that stood out when towing.

Does anyone else do something like this?

Turn your lights on during the day time and call it good. Buy the color that floats your boat.

I had to laugh. My Highway patrol buddy used to tell me they loved bright colored vehicles because they always stood out....especially when speeding. In the old days, prior to political correctness, they loved them because on Friday and Saturday night the bright colored cars often had the pretty girls.

After driving lettered white company service trucks and vans for 35 years, white is not an option for me. Reminds me of lowest budget fleet vehicles on the lot.

I finally got a red truck, my first ever. Always had white or silver. No reason for the color other than I wanted one. It does go better with our tan-ish Pinnacle than the silver one we traded.

So here's what an AI generated summary about vehicle colors and safety had to say

Yes, some car colors are considered safer than others because they are easier for other drivers to see. Brighter colors, like white, cream, beige, and yellow, are generally safer than darker colors, like black, gray, silver, blue, and red. White cars are especially visible at night and in other weather conditions, with the exception of snow. They also contrast well with the black asphalt used on many US roads, making them easier to spot. According to one study, white cars are 12% less likely to be in a crash than black cars, even during the day.

I owned a red 1988 Ford Ranger 2.3l XLT 5 speed. Year was 1995 and Interstate 29 in Iowa/Missouri was still 55 mph. This particular vehicle would BARELY break 60 mph down hill with a tailwind. Someplace north of St Joseph, Mo. I was passed by 10 or 11 vehicles moving WAY faster than I was. Shortly there after a metalic gray Crown Victoria, also traveling very fast, pulled up behind me as I watched the driver flip a red and blue beacon up on the dash as he "lit me up". I glanced at my speedometer, which indicated I was going between 55 and 60 mph, flat on the floor as I had been for miles. I pulled over. The Missouri State Highway patrolman approached my passenger door, tapped on the glass and indicated he wanted to converse with me. I killed the truck, put it in first gear and set the parking brake, then rolled down the (manual) window. Usual formalities, license and registration...etc.
Do you know how fast you were going?
Yup, sure do.
How fast do you THINK you were going?
Pretty sure it was under 60, I just got passed by a bunch of cars going WAY faster.
Yea, well I stopped you and you need to slow it down, I had you at 78.
He wrote a ticket for 70 and told me to have a "nice day".
As he handed me the ticket, he said red vehicles always "stand out in a crowd" and speeders are easier to catch. Fine was under $100, but in 1996 gas was only about $2.00.

Having maroon, maroon/silver, red, gold/rust, and black trucks, I wanted another red one and it had to have a 6 1/2 ft box. Had to get a white one.

The DW wanted a blue suv. She now has a black pickup. I would say we both had to compromise...

Anyone who’s done any research knows that silver and grey trucks produce the most power and have the best payload. Black is a close 2nd. lol.

Funny thing is, I’ve never had birds hit my trucks while towing till I had these colors. Dumb luck or a color thing? Excuse the SOB trailer.

I drive with headlights on, no matter time of day. Preferred truck color is white, but honestly could care less. Usually buy lightly used truck, whatever color and make that is the best price at the time I go to buy.

Benefits of a white truck are that you can buy an $80 amber led beacon light and park anywhere in a city that you want. Pull up on a curb, plug in the amber roof light and go to dinner. You'll never get a ticket or towed! Bonus points, get a magnetic door sign that just says Water Department.

What color car could the one actor not drive in the kurt russel movie used cars? You should get bonus points for even remembering that movie.
