If you meant the jeep grand cherokee I would say my 3.6 is adequate. I don't know the tow capacity of the regular cherokee. I tow a 19.5RB at about 3,500 pounds and 400 tongue with no problems except 9 in the mountains and 14 to 16 on the highway.

I would not tow with less torque and horsepower than the 3.6. The diesel would be perfect and I wish I had one.

We pull a Jay Flight 264 with a dry weight of 4400lbs. with a Grand Cherokee. It’s not quite enough for a trailer that size.

I tow my x17z that has a dry weight of 3300 and filled, its about 3800 lbs with a 2005 jeep Liberty 2.8 diesel. We are not winning any races while going up the Grapevine in California, but we are able to plod along at 50 mph until we come upon a slower truck and traffic won't let us by. Going down the Grapevine towards Bakersfield we lost the trailer brakes over the bumpiness of the fwy. As soon as I saw a straight exit in Bakersfield, I refilled up the fuel tank and saw a CAT scale, we were at 8800 lbs for the trailer and jeep. I was amazed at the little engine. Needless to say, I just bought a Ford f-350 with the 6.0 diesel in it. I hope I don't blow it up pulling a 17 foot trailer I would say to watch your weights, stay safe, don't pack gear that you won't need and have fun. Camping is supposed to be fun, not stressful. Pay attention to the tow rating of your vehicle, try to be less than 80% of your limits and you should be fine. Im hoping that you have WDH and sway bars.

Are you sure its not the 3.0 diesel turbo charged engine? if its made by VM Motori, look on lostjeeps.com for help and suggestions

Here are the tow capacity figures by engine for the 2019 Cherokee. All 3 have limited frontal area restrictions as detailed on page 372 of the owners manual which is also included. The 3.2l with the trailer tow package looks like it is the most capable of the available options though I'm not sure it's going to provide a towing experience that you'd be happy with.
