I pull my 26BH (7500# GTW) with a Nissan Armada that has a published tow capacity of 9200#. I get around 10-12 mpg towing and have never felt uncomfortable while towing even on interstates and through mountainous terrain. With a wife and 3 kids, some still in car seats, a truck was not an option for me. I know there are many out ther that will claim a full size truck has plenty of room, but not for my money. IMO, full size SUVs are a great TV option for camping with a family.

Don't let anyone convince you that you need a 3/4 ton diesel, unless it's your wife. If that's the case, quit wasting time here and go out and get one.

We tow a 24FBS with our F150. It does the job with no issues. Trailer is 7500 fully loaded, but it never is. (It has an enormous fresh water tank that on paper, means it would weigh that if full, but we never tow with a full tank, or even close)

Your 22 would be towed quite easily with a half ton truck, properly equipped. The question you may wish to consider is if you are investing in a new tow vehicle, do you want to keep future options open should you want to trade up to a larger unit? If so, go with a 3/4 ton. Just my humble opinion.

Your correct!

I responded with X23B data based on the OP's first post, last sentence, when he stated: "Any comments on the 23B? Thanks, Rick"....., that's what I ran with (incorrect of course)

I usually keep my speed below 65 on the freeway, and on the upgrades I will try to keep the tranny from down shifting. When I wear out this truck, I plan to get 3/4 ton truck with at least a 6.0 engine. It'll probably be a while before that happens, though, because my truck odometer is just approaching 100,000 miles.
Hope that helps.

Don't expect real good mileage on that 6.0L. My 2014 Sierra 2500HD, CC, 4X4 gets a squeak over 7 mpg pulling a 24RKS which grosses at about 7K lbs. Unloaded and with a cap on the box it's tough to get over 13.5 mpg. Other than that it's a comfortable ride, the HD tow pkg works fine and the brakes are adequate

Jeff61, While it will not be anytime soon when I make a trade, I also know not to expect any better fuel economy. Pulling with my Sierra I'm looking at between 8 and 10 mpg. No complaints there. My complaint is pulling those long grades seems to be a struggle at times. The truck is only rated to pull 7600#, so I'm close to max when loaded. The tow rating on the 3/4 ton truck with the 6.0 is higher and shouldn't have any problems pulling those grades. Also, I don't want the 4X4 option.

A lot of stuff covered by posters in this thread. You may find that the 23RB will become a little cramped and end up wanting a bigger trailer. We had a 26BH which has more storage area (under bunks), smaller bath and no wardrobe in bath. The 26BH did not provide enough personal privacy for us, whereas our current trailer has a closed of bedroom separated by a bath from the living area.

I don't think we know enough about you, young or retired. Starting a family; have a big dog etc.

Buy a big enough truck to provide for future expansion if a larger heavier trailer is in your future.

I had a Honda Ridgeline until this week. I was towing an R-Vision Trail Lite 230 BH that was a little over 3 grand dry weight. I LOVED the Honda but wanted to do more camping with a bigger unit. While I had the Ridgeline, I got about 8-9 MPG towing the trailer. I now have a GMC Sierra 1500 with Max Towing Package, camping mirrors, etc. Bringing the TT back from the dealer, we got 13 MPG on a truck with 6 miles on it before the trip. I think the Ridgeline is a great truck for normal truck use, but for towing a TT, the V-6 and Unibody construction limit its capabilites. I miss the trunk in the truck bed!

I think the key words here are to NOT GET IN A HURRY WHEN TOWING! 60 mph is far safer than 70 mph. Besides, trailer tires are only rated to 65 mph to begin with.

Hey Nighthawk 96, I am recently retired and will be traveling with my wife. So this is a big decision for us as we will be traveling for at least 2 months at a time. Like your advice about a big enough trailer though. Not sure that i would feel comfortable towing something much larger than the 23RB. I do want us to have enough room as to not feel cramped. The plan is to not spend so much time indoors. Anyways we are novices and just trying to get as much info from you all as we can. Much appreciated.
Thank You, Rick

Rick, There are companies that will rent RV's. This may be something for you to consider. Our first trailer was a Rockwood 1808. It was supposed to be 18 feet long, and while it was a good trailer and doable for the 2 of us, there wasn't enough room to wiggle. We used it for almost 8 years and traded it for our new Jayco 24FBS. It's much more comfortable and just a few feet longer. I don't expect we will go any larger though.

+1 that's actually a really good idea, especially for a newbie. Borrow a camper or rent one and go out in it and use it like you intend to use the one you would buy.

We borrowed the outlaws' class C and even though we weren't considering a C, we learned A LOT about what we could live with and what we couldn't in our new TT.

When we bought our 26BH I was concerned about weight and so elected not to get a trailer with a slide out. Never felt bad about pulling that trailer or our 27DSRL
A slide out will give you a monumental increase in space with a little extra weight and maybe a slight increase in length.

Good luck with your choices - TV and TT!

Proper sized truck and good hitching technique and equipment will make all the difference in your towing experience.

My last 2 RV's were 24 and 26 feet. Reasonably easy to manipulate and find spaces we fit in. Large enough for us to be comfortable. Both are half ton towable.

Hands down get a 3/4 ton diesel. I for see a 5er in your future. You'll have stress free travel with the diesel. I have a 23b and I going to move up to a diesel just for the stress free driving. Only tow about 6 to 8 times a year. Sounds like you will be doing alot of traveling just the fuel economy of the diesel and longevity will make it worth while.
