I tow a 195 RB with a Toyota crew cab 4wd with a tow package. the 195 is a tad over 3000lbs and we handle the mountains very well . but if I had a larger TT I would have to upgrade

all the above with wife and Gracie the wonder dog

Of course it does! Even without a head wind, a pickup truck and travel trailer is an aerodynamic nightmare combination. Heck, I got 9 mpg today with my class 8 semi truck with 53' of 13' 6" high and 8' 6" width trailer with a load in it dealing with an offset head wind. But it is designed to be more aerodynamic. If it was shaped like the typical pickup / travel trailer configuration, I doubt I would have gotten 5 MPG. Pickup trucks are essentially rolling bricks and hardly streamlined for aerodynamics, and adding a big box on wheels behind it really messes things up. I like a topper on my pickup when towing as it offers a little more streamlining between pickup cab and trailer. Besides, I have so much left over payload capability even after a trailer is hitched on that having a topper allows me to have a whopping amount of extra weather proof storage.

You don't need a truck to tow Jayco.
