Towing something behind a TT

I plan to leave my TT in Florida and we'll only be using it for extended periods (fall and winter months) there. We'll keep the trailer in storage and then pick it up when get into the state and tow it the last couple of hundred miles to our final destination. I would like to take my motorcycle along for these extended times. My first thought was to trailer the bike down, pick the TT up and leave the bike and trailer in the storage spot and then come back and get the bike after the TT was set up. Then I saw a clamp on hitch receiver at the RV store and I had seen boats being towed with a jet skis towed behind them and that got me thinking. Would it be possible, and safe, to tow the bike behind the TT the last few miles? Anyone ever tried this? I would hate to back the rig up. The two trailers together would still be within my tow capacity.

Just curious.

I had a hitch fabricated that ties into the frame of my Eagle, I wouldn't trust the bolt on hitch on the flimsy trailer bumper. It is perfectly legal for me to tow my pwc behind in WI and my truck doesn't even notice the slight weight increase. I have not and will not attempt to back up with both trailers. Hope that helps.

Towing something behind a TT

I tow my polaris ranger behind my eagle with no problems. I have a heavy duty bumper on the back of it though.
I dont think i would trust a bolt on type hitch if i were you.

Towing something behind a TT

Easiest method is to get a toy hauler.

:-)

I thought you could only tow behind a 5'er though.

I had a 2" receiver custom built and welded to my TT, to haul bicycles. I have never used it to pull a tandem, but wouldn't be concerned about doing it for a short distance if I was in weight and length spec.

At one point you mention the last couple hundred miles, and another time you said the last few miles. If its really only a few miles I'ld go with you initial thought. Storing your bike trailer in your campsite may be tough.

Some states allow towing behind a travel trailer and some don't. You will find that a lot of states on the East coast don't allow that even with a 5th wheel.

If your home licensed state allows towing behind your trailer the IDAHO TOTE might be a good solution for you... This is a small attached trailer with swivel wheels. Some states don't even call this a trailer since it is not using a trailer hitch..... Looks something like this...

Of course your other problem will be getting the motorcycle to where your trailer is stored. Wife drives truck - you ride the motorcycle I guess.

Just food for thought

There are a bunch or rules, but I am totally legal in WI based on my setup.

Thanks for the replies. Just to clarify, I view the last few miles as something under 200 miles. If I were to pull the bike trailer behind the TT I would have to store that trailer once we get set up. Some of the parks have lots for storage and at others I would need to find a storage location. I'll need to check into the laws regarding pulling tandem. Still not sure it is something I would want to do.

Thanks,
Dennis

Another option could be the swivel wheel trailer. It , like the Idaho Tote, is attached to the trailer frame on each side with a hinge so it can flex. They can also be backed up and are a LOT less expensive than the Idaho Tote.

If your still under warranty don't do it. It will void the entire warranty per your owners manual and JAYCO. Also I know people who have damaged their frames because it is not designed for the added stress.
