Towing with a 3.9l Dakota Quad Cab???

I am kind of sweating the fact that I just purchased the X20E and presently have a V6 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab to tow it. Does anyone have (or know someone that does) any experience towing with this vehicle?

We used to have a pop-up camper that was towed without any issues.

The X20E maxes out at 4750 pounds but I really dont have any plans on bringing water along with me and will be careful when loading it so I should be around the 4400 pound towing capacity.

I have the e-brakes set up and plan to stay on Long Island (kind of flat) this year and will see if we need to trade up tow vehicles next season (Ram 1500, 5.9?). If I do keep it I will invest in a transmission cooler.

I have done a ton of research online and have found everything from the "vehicle is terrible at towing" to "it is awesome at towing"...I guess only time will tell! and the smell of the transmission!

Might not help you much, but I tow a 19h with a colorado with a 3.7l. The trailer has a dry weight of 3600lbs, and if I have no hills or wind I do alright. Throw some wind or hills in there, and the little truck sucks slough water.

Thanks, this helps a lot and it is this kind of real word experience that I am looking for...before I need to break it to my wife that we will need a different town vehicle soon!

It is the wind resistance that kills me more than the weight of the trailer. Give it a try. Make sure all brakes are working, weight dist hitch properly adjusted and go. Might just have to pull slower than the speed limit, but what ever. I have never calculated my loaded weight, 2 adults, 2 kids, 4 bikes, 1 dog, 1 cat, and all the other goodies. Never haul water,grey, black, or fresh. I even dump the hot water tank before we hit the road.

Dont forget to weigh the passengers in the vehicle and the cargo in the vehicle That also counts for tow weight.
