towing with the 3.0 duramax

Just picked up a 2022 refreshed silverado 3.0 with the max trailering package. Also bought a Jay Feather 24rl. Anyone towing with the 3.0 duramax. Interested in your observations.

I believe the towing capacity is 7000 lbs. Correct me if I am wrong, but it will be close. I think my TT 23 RSLW is the same. My 6 cylinder Silverado towed it once and it was a struggle. After I up graded to the 3500 Duramax.

According to the door sticker I can tow 12,900 conventional and tongue weight max 1290. However the payload is 1750. I'm going with a trailer that grosses 6600 to stay within payload.

I think you will be OK, Sorry I was thinking about the Duramax Canyon/Colorado. You should be good.

My neighbor has a 22 with the 3.0 and asked me to help get him set up for towing. His trailer is a 18' aluminum open place that he put a Can Am 1000 side by side and a quad on it. Figuring the total weight was 5k back there, I got him all set up and took it for a test drive to get the brake controller set and I have to say I was pretty darn impressed with the power that little engine has. You dont have to step on that fun pedal very much and that thing will get you down the road pretty quick.
He took it for a 400mi round trip vacation running 70-75mph and it had plenty of power and handled that trailer and load really well. At those highway speeds he even pulled down 13.5mpg. Empty it gets nearly 40mpg on the highway.

I pulled my 7600 lb coachmen to Myrtle Beach two weeks ago. Got 14.5 mpg at 65 mpg. I was impressed. Only got 9 mpg with my 2500 hd. But that trailer was all I wanted to pull. Sold the coachmen and bought a Jay feather 24 RL. 6600 gross, I think it will be much better.

It will tow your Jayco very well. It's rated at 12,900 but will pull more in the form of a lowboy trailer. It's still a half ton truck so a 7600 travel trailer will push the truck around pretty good. Biggest issue I've heard with the 3.0 Duramax are the transmissions. They're not holding up to the torque. Lots of folks losing trannies at 50k. If I had one I would be changing the transmission fluid at 20k mile intervals.
