Question Transmission cooling lines

We are pulling our new Jayco 26BH with a 2012 Ram 1500 with the 4.7L engine. Is it a good idea to install a transmission cooler on this truck?

Absolutely! If there isn't already one in it.

it's never a bad idea to keep the transmission cooler. Happy transmission = happy wallet!

That truck should have one in the radiator.

An auxiliary cooler would help too.

Install an additional auxiliary oil cooler in front of the radiator. The one built into the radiator cannot transfer enough heat while towing and you'll still cook your tranny. A local transmission shop told me a while back that you can't overcool a transmission in Michigan, Alaska maybe but not Michigan.

I wouldn't tow with out an extra transmission cooler. The factory cooler isn't enough unless you have a towing package from the factory. Even then an auxillery cooler is a good idea.

Your truck should already have an auxillary cooler. It is hard to see but you should have four steel lines running in front of your radiator Two for tha AC and two ffro the transmission. I had a 2012 4.7 Ram and it had them and my 2013 5.7 also does. Your EVIC on the dash depending on your equipment may show a guage summary on the info screen. Tranny temp is one of them. I towed my fully loaded x23b full water tank and gear 200 miles last week short steep hills probably at the full 5000#, tranny temp never got over 157 degrees ambient temp about 70 degrees.

We went back to Dodge and verified that our vehicle has the heavy duty tow package including heavy duty shocks. This is part of the response we received by Dodge after we gave them the vehicles VIN nbr.

"Your vehicle came equipped with both heavy duty transmission cooler (sales code NHD) and heavy duty engine cooling (sales code NMC). I have talked to my service writers and Mopar and neither recommends adding an aftermarket cooler. They both believe the setup you have should be more than sufficient."
