UPDATE

I am about 1800 mi into this trip and have a towed behind my 5 w. I take it off regularly and attach it to my truck to use it then back on my 5w. In making the swap back to the 5w from the truck I could not get the hitch to latch onto the ball.

Clean and grease did not help. Then I knew the problem...the hitch nut needed adjusting. Grabbed a 17mm scocket and adjusted for a proper fit.

The claw cannot be to high as it will contact the upper part of the ball and not allow a latch. Or if the claw is to low it will not latch. Has to be in the Goldylocks position.

I use marine bearing grease.

Also, I do not engage the parking brake while hitching or unhitching. I want the truck to have a little "slop" so that if the coupler binds on the ball, I can give the truck a nudge and it'll drop loose.

Sounds silly but I use bicycle chain dry lube. Specifically for dusty dirty conditions. Use to compete in mountain bike downhill years ago and this was all we ever used. Leaves a dry film and dirt and mud never stuck. Highly recommend.

That stuff is great. I use it for all sorts of things. Unfortunately not enough on my bike!!

I get up on the bumper of my truck and bounce up/down a bit until it releases. Greased Ball although helps quiet things down, doesn't help to release much IMO. My Driveway also slopes down a bit. Don't have this issue on level ground.
