Truck Bed Cover
Not asking what brand to buy as I know which one I will get.
Do you guys prefer a tri-fold or a roll-up tonneau cover (and why)?
Thanks

I have had both types and have to say roll up is my preference. I currently have a tri-fold but the issue I have with it is, when in the folded position on the truck, it still takes up a third of the bed. If I want to reclaim that third, I have to get in the bed, crawl under the cover and undo the latches to pull it off.
When rolled-up, a roll cover only takes up a small part of the bed. The downside of the roll up is the Velcro that eventually looses it grip.

I like the tri-fold for the 'security' it provides but I do not like that to use the entire bed you have to either remove the cover or fold it up and block the rear window.
It is a trade off.
I have a oft roll up.

I have a tri-fold on the Ford and an Extang Full Tilt on my Ram and the wife's truck. As mentioned above, they have their tradeoffs. The advantage of the full tilt is that it can hinge open, be rolled up, or completely removed depending on need. You can't however roll it up in the winter. It is simply too stiff to roll in the cold and you can't get it to snap again until it is warm out again or back in a warm garage.
The advantage to the tri-fold is that the operation is simpler, more security, and no snaps to deal with. But again, you loose that 3rd of the bed.

I've had both, and have done away with both. The new truck is naked. Simply want the full access of the bed without the hassle. It has it's drawbacks though.

I’ve had both and prefer the trifold. Both of my roll ups chafed when rolled and we’re close to wearing through within 18 months.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

I have a trifold and like it. Even though it takes up a third of the bed when folded up I can have it off in 5 minutes if need be. It'll store in the back seat.

I have a roll up and like it because I can roll it back to the 5th wheel hitch thereby covering items in the box ahead of the hitch. I have a 3,000 watt generator behind the cab and in front of the hitch so I can roll up the cover all the way to the front and run the generator without removing it from the truck.

There is another option;
I got a diamond back hd it is weather resistent it locks and opens (in my case) from the front or back allowing you to secure everything in the bed and still put upto 1600 pounds on top of the cover with heavy duty tie downs all around it.
Since I got mine with the line-X coating, I can actually tailgate on the cover and still use the bed for coolers etc.
If for some reason I do need to remove it I can by myself in supposedly 10 minutes - the reason I say supposedly is because in over a year I haven’t run into a reason to.
I have flipped the back half forward and bungie corded it down and flipped my bed extender out and have picked up a dishwasher gotten propane tanks filled etc.
I have also had pallets of items place on top of the cover as needed.
Good luck with your choice!

I currently have a trifold fabric that I can run the fiver with it stacked at the front and have some weather coverage for 1/3 of the box. Can't run naked as we get snow up here.
Had a Bakflip and liked it for full box usage but the paint peeled, it leaked, didn't always latch properly, etc.
Had a RollNLock. That was a piece of garbage unless you live where there is nothing that ever lands on it (leaves, snow, dirt, etc)
Had a fabric rollup and it was way too much work to get clipped back on to the snaps.

I have had Peragons on last two trucks. Never going to have another brand again.
Sounds like you are sold on a brand and type but you should look at these.
Peragons hands down.... my .02

Nice looking cover... if you live in a fair weather location (ie: no snow/ice)

I recently replaced my soft tri fold cover with a hard tri fold cover (Undercover Flex). I pull a travel trailer, and latching / unlatching the soft cover while hooked up to the trailer required that I either walk around the truck or climb over the hitch to latch / unlatch the other side of the cover. After dealing with this twice a day, for six weeks while traveling with my RV this fall, I decided to replace my soft tri fold with a "single" latch cover. Now, when setting up, I can just pull the release cable, from either side of the trailer tongue, and fold the cover. Also, this cover allows full bed access.

Our truck came with a cap. I really don't care for caps. They impede visibility and people can see what's inside. Plus it limits what I can haul. I wanted security and durability so I sold the cap and bought a Extang Solid Fold. I can stand on it. It locks by virtue of my locking tailgate, and I can travel with it open. And it's easy to remove if I need to have a load of gravel dumped in with a front loader. It's not a cheap cover but it was worth every penny.

I’ve had both. The trifold would be my preference because it just looks better, but like Ohio above I’m done with both of them. They both ended up sun faded and just looked bad. While I miss the cover to hide stuff and keep the elements away, at the end of the day they just looked horrible.

Why don't you give them a call, they have sold them around the country and I know people use them in the snow.

Can you leave it folded so half the bed is covered? I like rolling ones since most can be stopped midway to partially cover the bed but don't like the canaster at the front of the bed

I just have to look at the video to know they won't work. When those panels drop down and fold together any snow and ice is going to stop them from folding flat together.
I tried a RollNLock rolling cover when I had the dually but it didn't work when there was a bunch of ice and snow on it. Replaced that one with a BakFlip but it always let water into the box when closed up.
So far out of all the covers I've had the trifold ones that mount on top of the box work best in our weather. I've moved to using the TriFecta and just replacing it if needed. Just need enough to hide what's in the bed and keep rain and snow off the contents. Any cover out there can be broken into pretty easily.
There's enough different tonneau's out there that everyone can find one that they like and works for them.
