Truck cargo capacity discrepancy
I am trying to figure out a discrepancy in my 2017 Tundra's cargo capacity. The sticker on my door says cargo capacity is 1305 lbs. The manual says the GVWR is 7100 and curb weight is 5520. If i subtract 5520 from 7100 I get 1580. 275 lb difference.
Short of weighing the truck, should I rely on the door sticker for my cargo capacity?

The door sticker is more accurate. The manual is for a standard vehicle without the weight of any extra options added.

Yes go by the door sticker.

I think the door sticker also includes driver and passenger.

I can't find anywhere if Toyota does or does not count the weight of the driver as payload. I know Ford does not count the first 150lbs of the driver towards it.

Yeah, the only thing I've found is that they include a full tank of gas in the curb weight but if the curb weight varies by individual vehicle build, it doesn't really help me much.

Each truck will vary. It all depends on what options you have on you truck. Every little option adds up and takes away capacity. You can go by the door sticker, it will be within a few pounds of adding up and by following it you wont be putting anybody at risk by overloading.

You found your answer already in your first calculations. Don't exceed your axle ratings.
They maybe put a general payload rating because of the load in the box, what is on the rear axle for most part.

That is why you have a sticker on the door, which says cargo capacity is **** as built. Use that figure, your curb weight will change with added options. If you have a 4 X 4 that adds to the trucks weight and limits your cargo capacity...etc. Double cab, crew cab, size of box etc all take up cargo capacity..

I have same issue/question with 2017 Grand Cherokee Laredo.
One door sticker says GVWR 6500 lbs
I weighed Jeep with just me and full fuel. It weighed 4900 lbs.
So Cargo Carrying Capacity should be 1600 lbs, right?
Other door sticker says Cargo Carrying Capacity is 1050 lbs.
So which one?
Also, I looked at 8 other brand new Grand Cherokees of all different models and engines. All 8 of them had the exact same sticker as mine saying Cargo Carrying Capacity is 1050. Some were V8, V6, gas, diesel....
Also, tires are rated at something like 2200 lbs per tire.
I'm leaning more toward just "keeping in mind" the sticker saying only 1050 lbs CCC.

Manual
The manual is generic and used on many models with different drive trains - towing equipment and options - the door sticker is specific to your vehicle as it left the factory but anything added by the dealer or you will affect it minimally
