TT Towing with Golf Cart in Truck bed
Anyone ever tow your TT with a Golf Cart in the Bed of the truck? Is there anything to worry about other than making sure you don't exceed payload? My Chevy 2500HD is rated a little over 3000 lb. payload. If I have a hitch weight of say 1000 lbs, and the cart is 1000 lbs. that would leave me another 1000 lbs. for payload correct? Would the cart affect towing in any way?

Yes, you do see people hauling their carts in the bed of their trucks. In fact, If I could find an easy way to get a cart in the back of my 6.5' bed Ram, I'd be hauling one with me when I go to Ft. Wilderness for example. It's a much easier task in a 8' bed truck.
As long as you have the payload, axle, and tire capacity available, you will be fine.

Thanks, gonna have to look into axle and tire capacities.
I am just starting to 'experiment' as I have a 6.5 bed on my Chevy. My cart's tires would hang off about 4" and there's no room to tow with the tailgate down so I'm making a wooden platform for the cart to sit on, and gonna try to rig an electric winch on the front of the platform to pull the cart up the ramps. Gotta figure a way to keep the front of the platform down when the front wheels start getting near the back of the platform. Thinking I might be able to stand on the front of it (200 lbs) while the wife operates the winch? But I'd better have her filming it for America's Home Videos as I might become a human catapult!

You're in the same boat as I am. I can't tow with my tailgate down either a cart doesn't fit completely in the bed with the tailgate off.

I'll let you know how my 'experiment' goes. Gotta go pick up my winch from Home Depot then let the fun begin!

I'm figuring this out right now. I'm looking at DG Manufacturing tailgate supports. I have a 6'9" bed and based on my measurements my golf cart will fit with the 13" bar. I just have to figure out whether that will give me enough clearance for the jack and towing in my F-250.

I have a GMC 2500 with 6’6” bed and tow a 28BHBE with a golf cart in my bed every trip. I have room to leave my tailgate down but don’t. I made some metal bars that keep my tailgate at about a 45 degree. What kind of golf cart do u have? Mine is a club car DS and the rear tires rest on the bed and not the tailgate.

Here is my setup. Tows/works great with my Blue Ox SwayPro WDH. Yes I was a little camper nose low with the setup on this trip and adjusted it but the spot I was parked on made it look worse than it was....

That's encouraging SouthCo! I have a Jayflight 29L and I'm hoping to do just that. I'm looking to bring my golf cart to Ft. Wilderness over spring break. It looks like you have a rear seat; how close is the tailgate to the bottom footrest when the tailgate is at 45 degrees?

SouthCo, the next time you are hooked up and loaded, could you take a closeup pic of your tailgate at the angle, and the clearance to your tongue jack etc?
On mine, I can only open the gate a few inches before it hits the jack.

I made the bars so that the tailgate was very close to the rear seat footrest. With the golf cart strapped in it didn’t move much. I have about an inch between the tailgate and the footrest and wasn’t concerned if a big bump made them touch lol... and the tailgate may be a little more than 45 degrees. Here is a pick without the golf cart (may be a few months before I get it loaded up again).

I will but it may be a few months. My Blue Ox WDH allows enough room that I can lower my tailgate all the way down and not hit the 28BHBE jack. I didn’t modify anything....

Once you mount the electric winch could you take pictures. I would like to mount one in my Chevy as well.

Not to hijack the thread, but, after going through the same process, I finally installed a hitch on the rear of my trailer and now just tow my golf cart behind the trailer.
(yeah, I get it, not legal in some states, you can't back up, etc etc etc)

Maybe knowing SouthCos shank length would help, too.
@ Midnightmoon: Have you considered an extended shank for your hitch?

I have an EZGO Express 4 with Gas engine. From the front of front tire and rack to bottom of back tire where it would rest is 7', my bed is 6-1/2. The rear end of the cart (rear seat footrest) is 17" high so should not interfer with the TT as it sits above the propane tanks.

I have seen some folks mentioning an extended shank could affect towing?
