If the noise is coming from a trunion bar WDH, it is not supposed to be lubed. Some aluminum foil can be placed at the end of the bar but I just get used to the noise. Not really concerned if other drivers are looking.
General purpose marine grease. I have a bunch of it laying around from the old boat. It works well because it stays where you put it. Never had much luck with the spray lithium stuff around the hitch. I have used Vaseline on my friction sway bar perches. I let it ride for a while and wiped it off, now I have greatly diminished noise.

The spray lithium definitely doesn't seem to last. I doubt I get any more when I empty this can. Just can't seem to use it up! Taking a long time to empty it a couple squirts at a time.
White lithium X2. Make sure to get tops and bottoms of WD bars... I was getting only tops and was hearing a nasty sound and realized I was missing the bottom contact points.

It is supposed to be lubricated. Per the Reese installation instructions:
"Lubricate the ballmount sockets and spring bar trunnions to prevent wear. When hooking-up, place one drop of oil on the top and a second drop on forward side of upper trunnion. Place a third drop on the rear side of lower trunnion before inserting trunnion into ballmount Use a heavy oil.........Trunnions should be lubricated every towing day........."
I carry a small spray can of motorcycle chain lube. It just takes a squirt on the spring bars and ball. I like it because it stays put and doesn't run.
