WD bar question

Hey I'm pretty new here. Been lurking around for a while. I just recently traded in my 28' Starcraft Launch 28bhs for a 2016 Jay Flight 28bhbe. I was using a Curt 10,000lb wd bar setup for the starcraft but I'm wanting something a bit bigger for the heavier bhbe. What I'm wondering is what are they using to get their 10k ratings on their hitch? Is it the head or the bars? I'd rather just get the bigger bars if the head of the hitch is technically rated for more. Thanks for the help

I initially went with the Equalizer 10K WD Hitch for my 28BHBE but couldn't get it dialed in right. I wanted to just upgrade the bars but couldn't do it. I ordered the 12K version which had a heavier head as well as bars.

The trailer towed much better with the heavier setup.

This is why I want the heavier setup. I prefer to have too much hitch than borderline or not enough. I did find the info I needed after. The heads are the same and just different bars. Ordered a set of 1000-1500 bars.

I use a curt 1500lb/15000 set up and had a hell of a time figuring out if they all use the same head. It appears they are the same from 8,000 to 15,000 they just don't make it very clear.

The 28BHBE can easily exceed a 1,000lb loaded tongue weight, and a 34ft long TT will tow much better with a loaded tongue weight in the 13% to 15% weight range (of gross weight).

To dial-in your WDH with your new spring bars, a trip to the CAT scale under loaded TV/TT conditions is well worth the time. You may have run across the following CAT scale information while "lurking around" JOF .........:

It took a bit of searching around their site and etrailer as well but I got it figured and you're correct. Would be nice if it was a bit more clear on their site

Thanks Rustic! I do have experience setting up a wdh. I knew right away when I got the new trailer on the highway that I was going to need a bigger setup. These 1500 bars should do just fine. I'm usually loaded with nearly 2000lb in the bed of the truck as well.
