WD hitch question

My previous trailer was 26'. When I hooked it up I had the chains on the bars on the 3rd link. Towed great no issues. Then I sold that trailer and got my current 30' Jayco Eagle (in sig below). When I went to pick it up, I was helping the service guy hook it up. I saw him muscling the chain on. He was using the 4th link. I said I think the 3rd link is good enough. He said this trailer is heavier then your last one so it should be on the 4th link. So I put it on the 4th link but it was so stinkin tight!! It worried me. It didn't seem right to me. So I have been using the 3rd link ever since. Tows fine, no issues. Only thing I notice is slight leaning more forward on the front of trailer and slight leaning back on the truck.

So I guess my question is.....what do you guys think? Do you have to muscle your chains on even after raising the hitch up?
What link do you use with what trailer size.

When hooked up should the bars be level or slightly tilted up towards the trailer. They were tilted on the 4th link.

Hope this all makes sense!!

For one you need to set your wdh up for the rig you're towing, two, if you raise the tongue it should take minimal leverage to hook up the chains, what link you need is relative to your setup. When you lower the tongue the chains will be tighter than dick's hatband ( that's what causes the rotational force and distributes a % of tv rear axle weight to tv front axle and trailer axle(s). The bars should be close to parallel with the beams or just slightly tilted up, that chain isn't going anywhere unless a link is defective. Sometimes it takes some monkeying around to get the wdh setup just right, so find a flat spot and some shade.

You need to take measurements on the tow vehicle, front and back. Here's a video.

My suggestion would be to visit a CAT or other certified scale and set the hitch up properly for this new combination.

Follow all the suggestions above. I would also look at the manufacture's instructions . In regard to the chain tightness, I have found on the same trip that sometimes my chains were looser than others. Found out it had to do with the angle of my TV and that I was not lifting the TT up to the exact same spot every time.
