WDH Bars

So I have my WDH setup again with the TT and TV loaded. When the weight is taken off the jack the TT and TV sit straight, but my bars point slightly upwards. A tiny bit not a lot. I have read that some can point upwards, some sit parallel to the frame and some sit slightly down. My WDH instructions do not comment on it. I have setup as best as I can I think it can be done. If I raise or lower the hitch then it does not sit straight or the front rises. If I go with one chain link more there is less tension, and if I go one link less the bars really point up and the front and rear dimensions seem way off.

Thoughts?

I'll post a picture in a few minutes.

If you want to change the slope of the bars, and maintain the same amount of WD, then adjust the tilt of the hitch head accordingly. IMO, a slight amount of slope up or down really makes no difference, as long as there is enough chain length under tension to allow for sideways movement when turning. Rustic Eagle could probably quote you the exact number of links under tension you should have to achieve this.

Looking at your pics, you have 7 links under tension.

The WDH has the maximum amount of washer spacers in............as when I did the initial setup, and I had to set the hitch at that height as per the manufacturers instructions, the front would life, so I added two more washers and then went to the same chain links and the front did not lift and the rear settled 1 1/2" inches. The ride seemed nice. The manufacturer recommends a minimum of 5 links under tension. As well as before I added the washers I was just able to get the 5 links hooked up.

I like to double check everything.

I forgot to add, my tongue weight is a little over 600lbs, and I am using a WDH with 800lb bars.

IMO your WDH spring bars look just fine when engaged..., assuming that your TV's front suspension height has been returned to it's unhitched height. Your WDH has the round bar style spring bars which recommends that the bars be parallel to the TT frame when engaged... a little up/down is fine. Also, a 1" to 2" TV rear end squat is normal with proper WDH adjustment.

When any spring bar is adjusted such that the "tail" is pointing upward to much it may come in contact with the TT A-frame in sharp TV turns.

The 800lb rated WDH is fine, assuming your 600lb tongue weight is under "loaded" conditions (your good up to 800lbs under loaded conditions).

If you get a chance, a visit to a CAT scale will tell you everything you want to know about your weights and WDH adjustment. CAT scale how-to:http://www.jaycoowners.com/showthrea...igh-Your-tt-tv

Thanks Bob.........IMO opinion I thought from what I have read and watched on eTrailer that I was good to go. The front stayed exactly the same after I had made the hitch angle adjustments. As for the tongue weight, in all honesty I just never had time to get to a CAT scale. As well as that this is our first trip so up until now it has never been under loaded conditions. I did all the math way back at the start of the year with some help from yourself and Lee and settled on the 800lb as I will never be running with water in all tanks which would put me up to the 1000lb bars.

Thanks for all the help!

2 x what Rustic says about the CAT scale. Head towards your CG an hour early and plan a stop at the scale en route. I like to say that I knew my TT was not overloaded but now I KNOW I'm good.
