WDH Spring Bars

Ordered our first TT last week and now trying to figure out what size spring bars we’ll need.

Based on Dry/GVW of 6,500/8,500 I’m guestimating that tongue weight will be between 900 and 1,000, so assuming I’ll need 1,200# bars. That said, is there such a thing as too much spring bar and am I better off going with something heavier (e.g. 1,500)?

I have a similar weight trailer and the 1200 lb bars are perfect, my TW is running around 900lbs. 1500 may be a bit too much, its been said on these forums that you can indeed have too much spring bar but I have no experience with that.

I agree with Crabman, a 1,200lb rated WDH would be adequate. An ideal loaded tongue weight for the 29REKS would be 13% to 15% of the loaded TT weight, thus providing optimum TV handling. Assuming one loaded the 29REKS to it's GVWR of 8,500lbs., the desired loaded tongue weight would be 1,105lbs to 1,275lbs..

Another way of looking at would be: (6,500lb UVW) + (350lb Ship Weight Delta-estimate) + (100lb Dealer- battery, etc.) + (600lbs Cargo) = 7,550lbs TT Weight = 981lbs to 1,133lbs desired Tongue Weight.
