This is the right move. One thing to keep in mind though; the dealer is setting up that hitch for a "dry" trailer (not loaded and ready for travel). So chances are you will have to make some adjustments once the truck and trailer are loaded for a trip. Make sure you get the owner's manual and any extra parts for the hitch (like the extra washers) when you pick up the trailer. You (well, your parents I guess) bought that hitch, and need to get everything that came in the box with it. Also, if you already own the tools required to install the hitch, you should bring them along with you, most hitch manufacturers instruct you to tighten the hitch bolts frequently for the first few tows; when all the parts are settling in under load they tend to loosen up.

I was actually out camping so I missed this post!

I'm glad to see you decided to get a proper WD hitch. To those folks that say to tow without it, I speak from experience. While my Sierra is a very capable truck, my trailer's GVWR is 4750#. No way would I, nor could I, safely tow my trailer without the WD. Far too much weight is taken off the front wheels.

Even if the receiver was rated to carry the tongue weight (which I'm sure it is not), the juice is not worth the squeeze; hitch it up right and don't take the risk.

Suggestions?

1. Unless you have just a small pop-up, never tow without the system. 100% of the time when we're behind a drifting TT, when we pass ... sure enough ... no WD hitch!
2. Drive the folk's truck to pick-up the TT. We got the WD set-up from our dealer who dialed it in our for TT/TV combo, and saved us time/energy (which has a cost). We've since changed TV and DH, with the right tools, adjusted both the WD clamps and hitch-height successfully on his own. He commented that after he got it just where he wanted it (minor fine-tuning), he could tell the improvement when towing.
