What a difference 2500 Diesel vs 1500 Gasser

You may have seen my last couple posts about redefining our camping life. Long story short; kids getting older and busier combined with the challenge to get camp site reservations in California we decided to buy a small condo in the mountains and sell the JayFlight. Occasional camping will still happen, just might be a tent or rented class C.

So after driving a 2500 Duramax for the past 6 years, since I won’t be towing heavy any longer, I decided move back into a 1500 gasser. So 2007 2500 Duramax with 140k turned into a 2009 1500 with 90k — I cleared $2700 in the trade.

After a week here is what I can say. I truly miss the sound and torque of my diesel as well as 6 speed Allison— but I forgot just how nice a 1500 gasser rides compared to a 2500. Both trucks are crew cab 4x4 3.73. And I guess I’ll just get used to the 4 speed. Currently I’m happy with the transition, especially since I know the Duramax would no longer get properly exercised if it continued to live at my house.

That's good to know! If we downsize, I may be making the same type trade.

Yup, apples vs. oranges...

While the newer half tons have more than enough power to move it the frames are just not beefy enough.
