What Causes Wiggle?

I'm towing a 26BH with my F150 and Husky Centreline hitch and haven't yet been able to get rid of a little wiggle in the trailer. I've set everything up as per the instructions (Ford's and Husky's) several times and the wiggle persists. This means I constantly have to monitor the trailer and make adjustments. It's fairly tiring.

Any advice on where to start making adjustments. The only thing I can think of to start adding weight to the front of the trailer.

Does the hitch have any sway control?

Probably not enough tongue weight. Do you have a CAT scale near your area you can go weight everything at? My 26bh when loaded for 1 week(no water) is about 6500lbs. My tongue weight (2 full 30lbs LB and 2 6volt batteries) is 750-780lbs, giving me 12-13% ratio..never had any sway issues.

Murff: The Husky hitch has built in sway control.

Skaling: I had quickly scaled the truck last year but never unhooked the trailer. I don't know the tongue weight.

I don't have any major sway just minor movement of the trailer. I really would like it to feel like my old truck and trailer - locked together and very stable.

Most likely you are slightly front high on the trailer. Even if its level you will gain more control by lowering the front of trailer even more. Loading is important, adding weight behind trailer axle reduces tongue weight. Location of fresh water tank relative to axles is important to understand. Some designs don't lend themselves to hauling water.

Thanks eldermike. My trailer sits dead level and we travel with all tanks empty (the 26BH holds something like 700 lbs of fresh water!). I had considered dropping the hitch to the next hole but that puts the trailer in a definite lean to the front. I assume that adding more tongue weight will also slightly drop the front of the trailer too.

I tow with the Centerline too. Towed both my 26BH and 29QBH with it and both are very stable with no wiggle.

Word of caution, if you don't already you will need a 2" riser ball with the Centerline to keep the trunion cams from contacting the TT frame since the 26BH has a top counted coupler.

There is a lot if adjustment points available in that hitch. It takes some experimenting beyond the directions. The directions get you 90% there but for me it took trial and error to get right.

I suspect you need to be slightly noise down and have higher TW to resolve your wiggle. Instead of dropping a hole on the shank, considering angling the head away from the truck thus lowering the ball a bit. This will also lower the bars, but that is OK. I believe the directions say the non-engaged bars should hang slightly below the "L-Brackets" -- mine are actually 2"-3" below. I didn't like it at first but it has proven over thousands of miles to be the correct setup for my current combination.

Maybe just grasping at straws here, but is this a possibility:

Hi clubhouse.

You've got me a bit worried now as I don't have a riser ball. I've been towing this way and never had any parts touch that shouldn't. Here's a video of the Husky (not mine) and I don't see how the parts would make contact even with the coupler on top of the frame. I'll definitely be triple checking this the next time I'm out at the trailer.

I should also have mentioned that I am using the 800-1200 lb spring bars which is a little stronger than necessary thought the truck rides fine while towing with them.

Looks like you have the new Centerline TS, and not the original Centerline. There is a big difference in the hitch head.

Mine is just the Centerline. That video is not mine.

I've not seen tire pressures mentioned. Make sure they're all aired up properly.

You can search my old posts and see the damage I couldn't explain till I saw it happen on the other side. My centerline definitely isn't the one if the video, similar but the cams the trunion bars ride it are extended way beyond the hitch head and that is what came in contact.

By the way I towed for over a year with no issues, then twice in two trips I had very right backing and the contact occurred.

I have never towed with the centerline, but I had this happen with a trailer when I was using the Reese dual cam anti sway. It was adjusted right at the dealer and in the driveway, but did not act right going down the road. What ended up fixing it was to stop at a rest area while on a trip and readjust while everything was loaded and the truck and trailer had "settled in" so to speak. After I did that, no more issues. I might try an on the road look, and see if the adjustment is different.

In addition to the good suggestions so far, I have two questions for you to think about. How much wind is present? Is there any cross wind at all? I bet this trailer has more surface area than your previous trailer.

Is the front of the truck set right? When you hitch up are you measuring the front of the truck to see if you're returning it to 0-50% of the original ride height?

And you can weight the TT tongue without going to a Cat scale place.

I've used this method and it's as close as the scales here in Oregon.

I used figure B.

what kind of tires? I have a 2010 f150 and the original P rated tires were too soft which would cause a feeling of wiggle even pumped up to max psi. Changed to an LT tire with different rating and its alot better
