It was frozen solid and even after spraying WD-40 and letting it sit for an hour the bolt portion rather than twist off via the threads stripped completely off the shock. I had to use a deep socket, universal ratchet extension and two additional straight extensions to make the long reach from the top side of the engine compartment to the top of the shock. There was no way to get any leverage on that nut from inside the wheel well.

Getting the new shocks on required using the jack to compress the shock so that the bottom bolt hole on the shock lined up with the lower bolt. I think I'm getting to old to be doing this stuff in my driveway. My wife comes out every hour to check and make sure I have had a heart attack or collapsed from heat stroke. I may wait until things cool down before tackling the rears. And I've learned in life the job you've never done before and think will take you an hour will take you three hours.
I just did mine on my 2016 F250 - OEM Fronts were shot with only 16K on the truck! Didn't have near the trouble you did with replacement but holy cow what a difference with the Bilsteins!!

Lots of new work just completed before our next trip. I replaced the aftermarket Banks pyrometer and boost gauge for much nicer Autometer Sport Comp IIs. Added a trans temp gauge, fuel pressure and HPOP gauge. Also added a custom F650 lower pod. On the exterior I replaced the old grill with one from a 2005 F250.

Lastly I replaced the Banks tuner with a DP Tuner setup with 6 programs.

Still to come – I have to re-do the onboard air compressor and tank. The existing tank never had an air/water separator between it and the compressor, so there's rust in it. And the compressor on it now is small. I'll be adding two Viair compressors, air/water separators and a new tank, plus upgrading the wiring to suit the larger compressors.

And yes, my wife thinks I'm nuts.

Added a feature that should have been there from the factory, but wasn't an option at the time... Power tailgate lock! Pop n Lock kit purchased from Amazon. Bit of an install, but such a sweet thing to have. Tied it into the wiring harness so it works with the key fob, etc.

Replace the battery that came from the factory with a AutoCraft Platinum AGM from Advance Auto Parts.

After nine-plus years, the factory Motorcraft battery gave up the ghost last night and stranded us at a restaurant last night.

Routed power cable for dashcam around windshield, down inside door seal under and thru dash and then into console to USB port. And tap into power in overhead power console for backup/rear monitor. Avoids having wires hanging down from windshield. Much cleaner.

That’s on my todo list...just don’t know when I’ll get to it.

Replaced the u-joint on the front drive shaft at the t-case of the burban. Been a while since I've done a u-joint, still a pain. Lol
I'd like to get my power locks working again so I can buy a new key fob for the keyless entry.

Should be great for future RV options. Hope it’s as trouble free as my Duramax.

I've had a bunch of them dating back to 1992. Great trucks. I think you will be quite pleased with how it will pull.

Excellent. I have owned 2 powerstrokes and 2 Duramaxs this will be the first Durge. I think I’m going to like it. Double the Payload and substantial amount of room and a bench seat up front. Won’t notice our 29.5 HT behind it but this will open us up to a full eagle without much hesitation.

A 2017 with 30 miles on it. Probably got a great deal on it. Congratulations!

Sorry to see you leave the Duramax family but a Cummins with the Aisin will be plenty stout.

Enjoy.

Gee all I did was spend 90 minutes changing the license plate light bulb. I now firmly believe some engineer at Chrysler was a former engineer at GE aircraft engines!

I know it. This truck has been amazing but the size and Payload and no rear vents this past summer was a killer.
Thank you for the kind words. Yes a great deal was had.

Congrats on the new truck. Looks great! Glad you’re gettin the AISIN trans. I don’t understand why Ram makes the heavy duty trans an option when you’re buying the diesel motor... But in your case it doesn’t matter because the truck has it which is nice...
