What did you do to your Tow Vehicle today?

Got a 6" drop hitch and new 2 bike Swaggman for my front receiver hitch for my birthday from the DW and DD's! I'll take pics later...I just got back from driving to/from Lubbock, TX and I'm exhausted! Saw lots of Jayco's going West & East on Interstate travels!

Edit: I should also confess that they also purchased me a pedicure...I’ve never done this before, so I’m a little apprehensive!

Had it carried via a flat bed to the Ford dealer.

Wife was coming home from my son's house. it basically quit, dropping down to limp mode while the wrench came on.

Will not know until Monday or Tuesday what's wrong.

Well best of luck to you. I hope that it's not too expensive.

Can someone tell me what a pedicure is? Something else I have to get for my truck? This forum is always costing me money.

I'll be very unhappy if it cost me more than $200 deductible on the Ford extended warranty what ever is wrong.

This engine is getting to be a little troubling. This is the 2nd time it has gone into limp mode. The first time was a few miles over 36,000. Throttle Body.

Between 50k and 55k, Ford replaced both timing chains and both turbos.

Waiting on what's wrong this time.

Have you changed out your spark plugs yet? Two important things the EcoBoost needs are fresh plugs and fresh oil. I changed my plugs at 70,000km and fresh Mobil 1 full synthetic every 5000-6000km.

Hopefully it's nothing major - was it humid/raining when it stumbled? Could have been the condensation in the intercooler issue where the water gets picked up and fired into the cylinders when you stomp on the gas after going easy for a while (condensation builds up). Then it's a bit of a misfire with a flashing engine light until it burns off and clears, then you're good to go.

You're lucky to have new chains and turbos!

Yes to the plugs. Put them in at the same time the chains and turbos were changed. I have 70800 miles on the 2014 truck, and at least 60% of it has been towing. I have the oil changed every 5K miles, but use the synthetic blend Motorcraft oil.

I've never had the stumble before, although I've read about it on various forums. Maybe that's all there is too it. But it's not something I want to deal with when out on the road pulling my trailer.

If I had the extra money, I'd go get a F250 with 6.2L gas engine tomorrow.

Just be happy you don't have the new 5.0L Coyote with the oil consumption problems. Have you been following that thread over on ford-trucks.com?

Sounds like you're treating it right with maintenance. Be nice to it, like let it warm up and whatever, but drive it hard. The ones that get babied and never see wide open throttle etc are the ones that tend to have problems. The ones that get driven like they're stolen seem to last.

I'm not sold on gas engines in HD trucks. Maybe this new Ford 7.3L gas will change things, but the trucks I have driven with big gas engines are underwhelming. I drove a relative's Ram 3500 this past week with the 6.4L and 4.10 gears.... meh. It was OK. Diesel is the only way for me in a HD truck. The Ford 6.2 was the same reaction. Just OK. I wouldn't even raise an eyebrow with what GM has to offer gas wise either. Just my thoughts on powering big trucks for big jobs.

I agree with this statement somewhat. I really think it depends on how much towing one does. For me I only tow 5-6 times a season and my F-250 with the 6.2L does a more than adequate job.

Just when the auto companies announce the elimination of many sedans and small cars and announce the addition of big inch gas engines for HD trucks, gas prices started to rise.

Washed & waxed her...finally had some good weather!

I also got the front drop hitch & Swaggman bike rack together & tested it out with a drive around the block. Seems to work well...we’ll see how well it does going down the highway. I figure it’ll bounce less on the front then it would in the back of the RV.

Looks good Dan! I have the same bike rack on the front of my truck. It was great on our trip this weekend
