What do you tow your W.H. 24RKS with?

Does anyone have a White Hawk 24 RKS? What do you pull it with? Have you ever weighed it? I would like to find out it actually weighs for towing. We are thinking of buying a new truck so we can pull a bigger trailer such as the 24RKS. I was hoping to buy a GMC 1500 V8 (5.3L)with axle ratio of 3.42. Was wondering if that truck would pull that trailer...

Maximum weight of the trailer (GVWR) is 6250, that would put ideal tongue around 750. A 1/4 truck should have no problem pulling it but will probably require a weight distribution hitch. Most trucks require one when weight goes above 5000# and tongue goes above 500.


Where most people get in trouble with a 1/4 ton truck is not tow rating or pulling power, it total payload. The amount of weight it can carry.


Add up base weight of TV plus driver, passengers, full tank of gas, gear, tongue weight this can not go over the GVWR of the TV. Most people will tell you, me included you don't want to be pushing this limit. I like to be under it with a good margin for error.


that's a pretty light trailer and you should have no problem pulling. but double check all the weights yourself.

My current trailer has a GVWR of 10,250. My F150 would have pulled it no problem. but with myself, the DW and 3 mutts and a full tank in the truck we only had 51# for gear, way to close for me so we upgraded to the F250.

Good choice for a TT. The truck you are looking at will do just fine. You won't have any issues. Do yourself a favor though. Do good really indepth research on towing, loads, cargo capacity etc on different models of truck as well as overall weights of the TV. Remember, if you're talking to salesman they want to sell you a truck so they will talk all of the stats that you want to hear and why theirs is better than the competition.

Does anyone know if I could pull that trailer(24RKS) ok through the mountains with the 1500 5.3L 3.42 axle ratio? Is there a good chance I could or do I need the 3.72 axle ratio? Hope not...

We were doing just fine with our 2007 GMC 1500 SLT Z71/4x4 w/tow package ~ it was in perfect condition, BUT with plans to traverse the country -- we elected to upgrade now (see signature). Gotta tell you, we don't even KNOW the TT is back there anymore and the ride is even better than before.

We towed our 27DSRL with with a 2012 GMC 1/2 ton, 5.3, 3.42. The truck handled the trailer fine as far pulling handling the weight. We were constantly assessing the payload limits because we were close especially with passengers. The 5.3 was a little squeamish. I found the transmission hunting annoying. I plan to upgrade my TT in a year or two so I upgraded my TV to a diesel. What a difference that made! The new 5.3's have been upgraded from 315 HP to 340HP so that may be enough. If you have the option to get the 3.72 ratio I would do it. That said, the payload is going to be your biggest enemy.

I pull a 24rks with a 2015 Nissan Titan pro/4x with a 9300 lbs. tow rating. It pulls it just fine. No mountains yet, but I pulled it to destin, Florida from Tennessee with no problems. You know its back there but my wdh isn't set up perfect either. I still have some adjustments to make.
