what is the best weight distributing hitch for an underslung coupler

Just bought a Jay Feather 24rl which has an underslung coupler. I am considering a new wdh. Input would be appreciated.

Visit this link to use our best forum search tool. In the search box, type "underslung coupler". I did that and found 138 posts. Hopefully someone will answer here but if not, maybe the answers you seek have been posted previously. Good luck... please post your results.

I have a 2022 27RB with the same issue. I got a Weigh Safe hitch and found out the hard way. The "L" brackets are not long enough and they don't offer longer ones. I had a friend who is a great welder extend the frame brackets 2 holes longer which solved the problem. I don't know if other hitch manufacturers also don't address this problem. It's not like Jayco is a very small volume manufacturer! I am very happy with the Weigh Safe now and would highly recommend it. I previously had a Fastway E2 and an Equalizer 4 way and the Weigh Safe is better.

I answered in another thread that Andersen does make a longer bracket for underslung, but it is special order. I didn't know about it when I got mine, and I suspect most Jayco owners with Andersen don't have them (and probably don't know about them). Andersen did without for a long time before they began making them on request. In my case I had to add a 3-inch link to clear the solar port on my a-frame, and that does reduce the angle a bit.

I have the same underslung coupler on my Jayco and I use a Weigh Safe with no issues. Once I couple the TT to the ball I do have to raise the jack up quite a bit to take tension off the tension bars before I can saddle them in the L brackets that are mounted on the trailer frame but it all works great.

Weigh Safe is typically a little more than others (mine was around 900) but look at the rankings on weight distribution hitches and you'll see Weigh Safe ranks second only to ProPride which cost right at 4 grand (Hensley is the same type of hitch as ProPride- crazy expensive). It is truly an amazing WD hitch.
