Not sure why yours was so heavy. Seriously there's no way an empty 2500 weighs 3800-4000lbs empty. That's why the door sticker for the tires says to run 65psi front and 45 psi rear. Because the rear is too light to run anything higher or the tires would wear out in the center.

Look at the PDF I linked. All the 2500's are in the 28-3000lb range. There's nothing to add that would total 1000-1200lbs from the factory.

What is your Payload?

Are the new trucks lighter? Maybe I am mixing up my Rams and my F350. I know for sure one of them was 4,000lbs empty on the rear axle. The more I think about it I bet it was my 350 cause it weighed 8,200lbs empty.

Not sure about that. But I can tell you my front with the CTD weighs 48-4900lbs and the rear is 2950lb with 5th hitch, me and gas. That totals 77-7850lbs+/-. My GVW is 9600lbs and the door sticker is 2176lbs for CCC. If my rear was 3800lbs I'd only have about 1000lb for CCC.

Maybe you're thinking of your F350.

You are correct, I was thinking about my 350.

Just for reference my 2015 F250 Crew cab, 4x4, gasser is....

4166lbs front axle
3064lbs rear axle

Add in 800lbs or so for a diesel up front and your numbers make sense.

2014 Ram CTD 3500 Megacab SRW loaded - My payload sticker shows 4074lbs

CAT weight with me in it and full tank of fuel shows 5220 steer axle and 3480 drive axle.. = 8700lbs leaving me with 3700lbs left

RAWR is 7k, GVWR is 12400

Rarely do real world weights match up anywhere close to claimed weights from the manufacturers (at least mine have not). 3/4 trucks get maxed out quickly from pin weight...if towing heavier 5er or toy hauler, the 1 ton SRW (if big enough for your rig) is the way to go imo

2015 RAM 2500 Tradesman, Crew Cab 4x4, Short Box, 6.4L Hemi, 10,000 lb GVWR:

Payload is 3,130 per the door placard; 3,281 per RAM website. Don't know how it scales because I haven't been there yet...
