What mileage can I expect?

I am pickup up our new 2011 Jayco Jay Flight 26BH on Thursday of this week. I will be towing it with my 2010 Ford F150 (5.4 L V8, 3.55 gears, 6 spd auto, 2 wheel drive, extended cab). Trailer is about 5000lbs dry, so I figure loaded it will be around 6000lbs for most of our trips. What kind of mileage can I expect? As popular as the F150 is, there has to be some of you out there with a similar pickup and trailer weight. Any input as to what I can expect would be great!! Thanks!! (Just trying to get myself mentally ready for all my $$$$ that is going to be spent on liquid gold!! :hihi:

You will love the 26BH (ok...I am a little partial to it!)....

You are not too far off my setup. I would estimate about 10 on flat land. If you are heavy or lots of hills you will go down at least to 9.

Stay off the cruise in hilly areas and take it easy on the throttle and it will help.

Best thing to do is swipe the card, fill up, but dont look at the total

I think you'll be happy if you get 10. Eight seems more my average. My Expy has the 5.4, 4 speed auto, 3.73 gears. Your extra gears might help if you can use them.

Just finished 3700 mile trip MN-GA-SC-TN-MN. 2010 F150 5.4/3.73. Best tank was 8.8 and worst was 6.8 (I thought I'd try putting my foot in it and see what happened). TV only had 1200 miles on it when we left. Maybe it will improve as it "breaks in". I've seen some claim 10 or more with similar rig but I don't know how they do it - drive slower than I do most likely. We have a model 242 with a GVWR of 6500. I know we're well below that when we're set to go.

I drive around 60, and its mostly flat land around here. And I believe from using a few friends that have Ford`s for comparison the Chevy engine in this size range gets a little better MPG then the Ford`s. I actually got around 11 bringing the trailer home from the dealer, 430 mile trip, but the unit and truck were almost completely empty. Your mileage may and will vary.

Thanks for the info everyone!! I was figuring around 8 or 9, so this confirms my thinking. Anxious to see how this new ford tows with a real load behind it. My popup was only about 2100 loaded, so I never even hardly knew it was back there. The new 6 speed auto seems to be very nice for towing. Thursday is the day!! Can't get here fast enough!!

Go diesel....I get about 9-10MPG towing my Jayco 213 (5500lbs Max) with my Traverse.

My dad gets 12-13MPG towing their 32' Fifth wheel (13,000lbs max) with his 2011 Ford F-350.

I'm guessing that if I towed my Trailer with his truck, I would get 14-15MPG. Problem is, I can't convince my wife to buy a $70,000 truck.

Yes, the Diesel will get better mileage, but the fuel cost more and there's more maintenance. I got 12.5 doing 65-70 hauling our 35' 5th. Empty it gets 21 - 22, of course the $100 oil changes every 5,000 miles makes up for that.

I thought seriously about the diesel. But at a $10,000 premium over a half ton that would do the job just fine, I figured that 10 grand would buy a lot of gas

Your mileage depends on a lot of things.. but mainly how fast do you drive? and how fast do you start from a stop? 62 mph seems to be the magic number as any faster than that and the mileage drops by a huge amt.

Made it home with the trailer. Gonna do a driveway camp this weekend and then head out on an 7 day memorial day weekend shakedown run!! Pulled it about 85 miles home today and averaged 10.8mpg driving 60mph. I think I agree that around 60 is the magic number. When I sped up to 70 the mileage gauge really starting going down, so I went back to driving 60. I think if I drove 70 I would probably drop to close to 9mpg. Thanks for all the input everyone. You guys were spot on as far as what to expect.

The ST trailer tires are also only speed rated to 65 MPH.

Good deal - glad you got all home safe and sound! Let us know how the shakedown goes.

I like 60 -- good MPG and also easy driving -- I like I can sit in the lane and not have to shift much. Much more relaxed when I get to the destination and does not save much time going faster in the big scheme of things. Camping is about relaxing - it should start when you leave the driveway

@tafishe
I agree. Relaxing starts as soon as I leave the driveway. Gonna have a blast with the new trailer!!
