Whats a good weight distributing hitch?

We are likely going to update our pop up camper to a Jayco slx 16xrb.

It has a dry weight of 2830 and a tounge weight of 300 lbs. I beleive the gvr is 3500.

I am going to be towing it with my Sienna minivan and need to find a WDH, which I know very little about.

I want something that will be light to meduim duty, easy to use and is not going to break the bank. The dealer said they could install a equal-i-zer hitch for $850 but that seems a bit much and I think I can find something for less that will do the job.

Do I need sway control on a smaller camper?

Any advice/ recomendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have used two WDH over the years. Currently the Equalizer brand, and previously the Reeses Dual Cam. I would say they both are excellent WDH. My recommendation is to get one with an integrated sway control system, you will not regret it at all. When looking at WDH, I have been told with some WDH you have to disconnect the bars before backing up. Personally I would avoid any that you have to unhook before backing up.

One more thing to look at is your minivan. Most of the load rating listed for a vehicles are listed as empty with only the drive on board. Remember with a minivan you can cram a lot of stuff in them that will affect your towing capacity.

Best of luck.
