Which plug? 6, or 7 pin

Good Morning,
I am going to assist my father in law by moving his 2001 Jayco 266. He lives too far away for me to look at the light/brake plug, and he doesnt have really good eyesight. I am going to order a brake controller, and all the necessary wiring for my 2001 F 150, and want to make sure which connector comes with the Jayco camper. Any assistance would be appreciated. I would like this mission to go off without too many problems

Thank You

I would almost bet it would be the 7-way connector setup. The 7-way blade type is the standard connector the RV trailers use. I would do the 7-way setup and you can always purchase a 6-way to 7-way adapter if it turns out to be a 6-way hookup. Doing this would allow your truck setup to support the standard 7-way connections for future use.

Note the six blades and the one center pin makes up the seven connectors as shown in the above photo from google images.

Perhaps you can get your father-inlaw to take a picture of the end of the cable that plugs into the truck connector using his cell phone camera and send you the photo... The end of the connector should look just like the photo above...

I use ETRAILER.COM for all of the items I need for the trailer connectors.

My '98 has a 7 way connector, so like mentioned above I am 99.99% sure that the 2001 would too (unless it was changed for some reason).

Yep - every trailer I have ever had used the 7 way. Everything from teardrop to car trailer to 5th wheel. This one shouldn't be any different.

We had a 1993 Jayco Eagle and it had a seven-pin connector. I'll get dollars to donuts that your father's has also.

Once you get the part number from ETRAILER it might be easier for you to order from AMAZON. I do it both ways here alot. AMAZON has the two day delivery and free shipping.

Why not just go down to the auto parts store and pick up what you need? They have complete wiring systems that just plug in. Seems easier than ordering and being shipped the wrong thing.

Good call, lx22f/c. In our area, Auto Zone and Walmart carry these plugs and wiring.

David, U-Haul installs brake controllers and associated wiring and are usually no more (often less) expensive than other towing parts / services dealers. I have a Prodigy controller they installed on my F-150 and it works fine. Check out their site. You might get everything done in one stop at an acceptable price. I don't have a knowledgeable opinion about U-Haul overall, but our local store is excellent. They often have coupons available or you can ask for a sale price - it worked for me.
