Who was I kidding!!!

Traded in the GMC 1500 3 weeks ago and picked up a 2015 Ford F250 Crew Cab. Been a GMC guy for over 30 years with multiple PUs. Finally picked up the WhiteHawk 27DSRL from storage and drove it home today.
Was I ever kidding myself about the capacities of a 1500 to a 250/2500. Hardly knew the trailer was back there and was so much more comfortable driving it. Now I never had any serious issues towing with the GMC, having taken it and the trailer on multiple trips, including Pa to Florida (& back) in January. But this trip was totally different. Only a short trip but WOW what a difference.
Read many times on this forum that, Yes that (insert name here) 150/2500 can tow this XXXX trailer and GVWR is fine. I just became a believer that matching the Tow vehicle to the TT is a critical piece that should never be underestimated.

Congrats on the truck. I was once a Chevy guy for years. Bought my first Ford 250SD Diesel in "03" and never looked back.

Congrats on the new truck. Your are right about the HD trucks. (reguardless of brand). I will never go back to a 1/2 ton.

i couldn't agree more. bought a 2015 26BHS back in February. at the time, i owned a 2013 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab. the towing capacity on it was 9600, and the GVWR on the 26 BHS is 7750, so i was well within limits. i had no idea how much the truck would struggle to pull the weight until i towed it home. our first trip was about 30 miles to the campground, and i didn't like how the 1500 pulled it AT ALL. we are planning a trip to Montana/Wyoming this summer, and i had some major concerns about how the 1500 would pull through the mountains. i happen to have a friend who is the general manager at the local Chevy dealership, and he let me borrow a 2500HD Duramax so i could test it out pulling the new camper.

the difference was DRAMATIC. long story short, the local Chevy dealership didn't get their 2500HD Duramax back

At this point we stayed with the 6.2 Gasser. It has to be my daily Driver for a least another year and I just could not bring myself to pull the trigger on a Diesel.

Still a big difference I bet with the larger frame and suspension.

Congrats

Went from a 1/2 ton to F 250 6.2 to pull my Jay Flight 26 RLS. I LOVE having more truck than needed. My Titan had plenty of pull but the difference in suspension/control is so comforting and relaxing.

Can't wait for the season to start.

Gorgeous truck! I love my current truck (F150 Ecoboost), but I think I'll be going back the F250 next time around. I miss it!

Yep, big difference between my 05 Silverado 1500 and the F250. I also stuck with the 6.2. Could hardly justify the difference. Surprisingly, around town mileage is close to the same I was getting with the 1500 5.3L. We specifically avoided I-70 on our two trips out West with the 1500 due to concerns of pulling in the mountains.

I did the same thing had 2011 f150 with the 5.0 and loved it but found a great deal on a 2012 f250 wit 34000 miles on it. And it had the 6.7 could not pass it up. I have had several f250 with the diesels 2 7.3s and a 6.0 and I would switch back to the f150 but every time I have. I sure have missed driving the f250. they just fell like a truck. Think I will stay with the diesel this go around. And holy crap do they have power!!!!!!

I purchased a Eagle HT 29.5BHDS and was planning to tow it with a 5.7 Toyota Tundra untill I joined this form and started to read and ask questions. Like I have heard over and over here the salesman is there to sell his product no matter what. After much thought, research and time I came to the conclusion that there was no way that I wanted to use that towing combination. At one point I did think about going back to the dealer and downsizing the trailer(cheaper) but instead my buddy who was now selling Ford again(I worked with him at Toyota dealer previously) talked me into a F350 Powerstroke.(much more expensive) I am now on countdown ,6 more days till I pick up the trailer from the dealer. The only thing that regrets my decision is my bank account! lol Seriously though this summer when I head out for 5 weeks 1 thing that will never concern me is do I have enough truck or am I over my payload!
And to echo Idahoboy "And holy crap do they have power!!!!!!"

I almost pulled the trigger on the new ecoboost to pull my x23b. From what i read it should be a great set up but glad to read your post about missing the 3/4 ton. This thread is making me excited to tow my little trailer with my big truck. Man I can't wait.

Your first pull, especially up a good grade, will be something you will never forget. Yeehaaaaa!

I'm eager to try out our new diesel in the mountains. The 1500 was fine in the flat lands but we want to take longer trips and we didn't want to be worrying about the terrain.

I have to make the hitch adjustments this week because the receiver on the new truck is nearly a foot higher.

I agree the difference moving up from a 1500 to 2400/3500 is amazing. I went from ram 1500 with hemi to ram 3500 ctd and would never go back to 1/2 ton (or gasser)

I can make the same statements going from my Ford Ranger to my current Ford 1/2 ton F150.

I just can't bring myself to spending 50K (or more) on a truck I don't need to pull my current TT.

Nice truck though!

Love my F250. It towes my TT (about 8000lbs.) very well. Yeah..would've liked to have had a diesel but I just can't justify $10k-$12k more for it. Bought mine off our lot with 33,210 miles on it. Got it for $30k. as opposed to the identical truck with a 6.7L on my lot (77,000miles) for $41,900. My purchase was for the same reason as RSerendipity. I drive 40 miles each way to work and diesel fuel is just crazy.
