Will I have tail waggin with X23b?
Hi everyone
I am torn between the x20e (22 ft long and dry weight 3600) and the x23b(24.5 ft long and dry weight of 3995). I have a Tahoe that will be towing it.
I am just afraid that the extra 2 ft on the x23b will cause me some tail wagging with my Tahoe.
What do you all think? I will have the 4 pt equalizer and a tranny cooler.
Here are my specs:
2008 Chevy Tahoe v8 5.3L flex fuel , 4 sp transmission, Payload 1600,
Tow rating at 7000lbs.

I towed a 29' Jay Feather with dry weight of about 5000 lbs. I think you would be fine with either. I also had the equalizer, and it drove like it was on rails, although I wouldn't have towed much more. I noticed the sidewind more than with my current setup and I could feel it more when towing with full tanks (black and grey were behind the axles). I would say either of those trailers would be a good match and 6-800 lbs tongue weight 'should' give you enough payload left (depending on your family size, loading habits, etc).

Did you get your payload off the door jamb or off the brochure? I'm always suspicious of round numbers w/ payload.

I towed our X23B with a Ford Expedition which may be a little heavier than your Tahoe. It's gone now but I recall it had an 8000# tow capacity and our X23B weighed in a touch over 5000#. The tongue was around 600#. We were a little under the max weight on the rear axle with the bride, wiener dog and myself but probably a bit over weight with a couple of extra people in the TV. The Rear GAWR was 4128# (took a pic of the door post label with the cell phone) but I don't have any of the other weights with me (travelling on business).

You'll be fine with the Tahoe. We towed our X20E with a Trailblazer, and although it was a pushing the weight limits of that truck, it was stable and comfortable. The Tahoe is far beefier than the Trailblazer.

You should be good. I am towing a 23B with a Dodge Dakota and it pulls quite nicely. You will find that with a proper setup you will not have any tail wag. I recommend a good WDH with an integrated sway control such as “Equalizer” or “Reese Dual Cam”. I am using Equalizer brand, I have only once experience any sway issue, which was last spring. On that trip I did not check my tire pressures, when I got home the HTT was about 5 psi low, and we had extremely high head winds. Last year we went out west experience high winds with proper tire pressures and had no issues at all.

I'm going to be pulling with a Blue Ox SwayPro. My Jayco dealer swears it's the best value hitch w/o spending Hensley money.

Tail wagging is caused by too low a tongue weight.. make sure you have about 15% of the LOADED vehicle weight on the tongue and you will be fine. Please note that dry weight means NOTHING.. the only weight you need to worry about is the fully loaded ready to pull out of your driveway.

Yea, you should be ok on the 23B. I tow mine with a Touareg about that size. I've got 7700lbs of room. The real world weights are a chunk over the ones from the website, but if you can handle 600-640 on the tongue and a bit over 5k for the trailer and you should be ok. With a good WDH setup it pulls ok. I'll be curious how that 4sp does as far as milage.
