2 wire thermostat upgrade

So I did some research about upgrading to a residential digital thermostat. Most showed conversion charts showing where to plug in the 5 or 6 wires. So I bought a Honeywell digital thermostat from Home Depot. Took my thermostat off and then my YouTube search began because I only had 2 wires. After watching a lot of videos explain what letters control what function I figured out the red/white wire attaches R, and I left the jumper from R to RC. And the white wire goes to W. Now the heater works flawlessly, hopefully this saves people some time. I bought the $20 digital thermostat at homedepot, it Is also programmable which is an added bonus.
