2006 Jayco 19H - Rear Bumper Replacement

Of all the upgrades I've wanted to do for our new to us 19H is adding more outside storage as there is not much to begin with. My goal is to use a hitch mounted cargo rack that I have for my truck already but need to get a hitch on the back of our rig.

First, has anyone done a rear bumper upgrade on an older 19H with a 1"x4" bumper? Just wanted to get an idea of it was done before trying to explain it to a welder/fabricator.

Thank you in advance.

I did try and search for the information however have not found any older 19H that have done this.

If you’re going to carry weight, I would have a hitch welded to the frame. Also, be careful how much you put back there. That’s a light trailer. Anything heavy will definitely affect your tongue weight. This free advice is worth what you paid for it. Lol

Yea I was planning on welding to the frame, just curious if others have done this modification before I "go it alone" per say.

As for the weight, it will only two dedicated footlockers for RV supply storage. hoses, chocks, etc. It will live on the RV as if it were outside storage compartments. All in all should weight less than 100lbs with the cargo rack.

I may get a bolt on hitch mount for static set up times. IE: grills, prep table self, etc.

That has a "ladder" frame, in that it has cut outs to reduce weight and is not a straight rail frame. I believe that's why these don't come with a more robust rear bumper. I'd find a good frame shop in your area and have them look at it to determine if adding a hitch is even feasible.

I have a welded on receiver hitch. Very versatile. I can use a cargo rack or more frequently a bicycle carrier.

Just do not use a bolt on 2" receiver hitch to the bumper. Or you will get home with no rack and no bumper.
