2015 jayco x17 z WDH needed?

We just purchased a 2015 x17 z jay feather ultra lite that we are going to pick up in a few days. We have a 05 envoy we are going to be towing it with. I’m wondering if a weight distribution hitch would be necessary or not. I have read mixed opinions on using a WDH on these trailers because they might damage the trailer frame.

I towed my x17z before having a wdh installed and it did ok, but you knew that you were pulling a trailer for sure. After the WDH was added it towed smoother and made the drive less tiresome. So is it a must. Probably not especial if you travel at lower speeds in low winds over short distances. Would I install one over again. Yes, easier, smoother, safer tow. Yes, I believe that it is worth the money, time, and effort.

Our previous trailer was a 2018 StarCraft 17SB. Almost exact same specs as the X17Z.

We towed it with a 2011 Expedition (standard wheelbase) using a round bar and chain style WDH and single friction sway control. It pulled great. I pulled it once, relatively unloaded, with just the sway but no spring bars, and it was certainly a less stable towing experience. Not uncomfortably so but just not as nice. Mind you my tow vehicle is larger than yours. Just my $0.02.

I can't comment on the frame.

I use a WDH and with the sway control and front steering in full control it's definitely a must. Also, nobody is flashing at me at night time while hauling because my lights are not pointed at the stars but the road ahead of me

Is this WDH too big for the jayco x17z?

Yes, 1000# bars are way to stiff for that trailer. Get the smaller one with the 600# tongue weight. Your tongue weight will be well under 500# loaded.

Many members here are running the Andersen WD hitch, especially with the smaller units. It may be worth taking a look at it for your application.

The Equalizer 600/6000 WDH works great with the 17Z, been using it for 10 years with no problems. Would not tow without it. Really stabilizes the unit when dealing with crosswinds, wind push from semis, etc.

This is the hitch I had on my Sante Fe. The max tow was maxed out with the trailer and the hitch/sway control were absolutely perfect. I have since upgraded to the Palisade as I didn't like have no excess towing capacity for bikes, gear or even solar panels if I wanted too.
But the hitch is super easy to use.

Before moving to the big house, Our 07 envoy with a 4.2 straight 6 pulled a skyline koala 24rbk. you can look it up. Using a wdh and it pulled pretty good, Just dont pull it cross country and you should be fine.

Center Line 32215

I also use the Husky Center Line 32215. I am pulling a 2016 X17Z with a 2.7L F150. I like the built in antisway and the fact that you can back up without disconnecting. If you go with a bigger camper in the future, you only need to change the bars and not the whole hitch.
