2016 Jayco undercarriage

Hi, we just bought a new X23B a few weeks ago and while playing with our trailer in the drive way I noticed the underside looks to be completely sealed with a plastic cover. Is this new for 2016 or has this been going on for some time?
I was wondering if this helps keep rodents out of trailers during storage. You can see where expandable foam was used between the trailer floor and this plastic cover. Nice idea.

We have that on our 2013 Whitehawk and it hasen't kept the rodents out. It's an ongoing battle.

It's called 'enclosed underbelly'. Usually it's a optional upgrade so you probably paid for it somewhere.. Did you get a 'thermal' or 'glacier' package..?
I have it and after 1 1/2 years no rodents have got in, however I went underneath and added extra foam to the areas that had slight openings..

It is part of a upgrade package. Most like it because it keeps the underside somewhat drier and cleaner. Also provides some retention of heat in winter to make it lees likely to freeze. You still have to run the heater to keep the areas above freezing.

I used this for those people sending me PM's asking.
It creates an airtight and water-resistant bond to wood, metal, masonry, glass and most plastics
Paintable and sandable

[QUOTE=Frankp877;346624]Hi, we just bought a new X23B a few weeks ago and while playing with our trailer in the drive way I noticed the underside looks to be completely sealed with a plastic cover.

The plastic cover that your referring to, is it on the "bottom" of the steel frame or the "top" of the steel frame.
Why I ask is because my Hybrid has a plastic like covering on the top of the steel frame but it's just the bottom of the sandwiched floor and it's just a waterfroof bottom skin.

Appreciate the response. The plastic is on the bottom of the frame, completely encloses the tanks and piping.
I'll be sure to get under and look for any possible openings that would invite unwanted visitors.

Hi Frank: Glad to see that you decided on the 2016 x23b. We have purchased
a new 2016 x23b also. We ordered every option that you could get. Hope to
get it in late Oct. Lets keep in touch on how we like it. WE have to drive to E Lancing
Mi from western Co but saved over $ 6,000 compared to buying it local. Would
love to know your experience so far

The under belly covering is called Coroplast. It is like corrugated cardboard, except made of some type plastic. The thin material on top is just a covering to keep water from damaging the underside if you don't enclose the underbelly.

You have the enclosed underbelly option. I would not say it will keep out rodents. I would spend some time under the unit and located every tiny crack, and fill it with a brass wool material (pot scrubby) and then marine silicone caulk. I do not recommend spray foam. Two reasons, one over time is absorbs water. 1st; Water + campers = rot. Second; it is very messy to use especially upside down while crawling under the trailer, you will have a lot on you and the driveway.
