Arrival dinner?
I was wondering what you all do for dinner upon arriving and setting up? By the time we get to campground it's close to 6-7. Which isn't bad but we have a 4 year old. Any suggestions? Thanks!

We have always done hotdogs over the fire and a packed potato or macaroni salad. Easy and quick.

Probably our most common dinner when we are arriving around dinner time is homemade chili; prepared at home in advance. All you need is 1 pot, 1 stirring/serving spoon, 1 burner, and bowls and spoons for the crowd and 20 minutes of heating time. Our chili has a fair bit of veg in it too, so we don't worry about sides at all.

Cold Cuts!
It takes under a minute to pull the sacks of pre-sliced meats from the fridge and throw 'em on the table.
The deli salads, bread and drinks another 30 seconds.
That's our arrival dinner!
And whenever we get back to camp after a rough day of napping at the waterfall, visiting with friends or getting lost in the woods.

Oh, yeah, paper plates.

We usually look for a "mom and pop" restaurant or BBQ place on the way in [emoji39]

We look for some local fare and sit to down to be served a nice meal. It's one of the few meals we eat out on a most trips. We also go out for breakfast on the day we pack up and leave.

Prior to our leaving for our Seasonal Spot, DW usually makes more food than needed and freezes the left-overs in freezer bags. On the day we are leaving, she takes out something for that evening and puts it in the TT's sink to thaw while we are traveling. When we get to the first overnight CG she throws them into the microwave for a minute or two and we are done.... probably a whole 4 minutes to prepare/heat.

We would usually pack a meal to eat when we'd arrive. It consisted of sturgeon caviar served with Mother Of Pearl caviar spoons, Ducktrap River smoked salmon, stuffed leg of lamb and escargot en brioche.
Eh..not really.
McDonalds was more like it.

We usually show up some time in the early afternoon. If there's a place to eat that we like, we'll usually go out for dinner the first night. BBQ is our favorite, so we'll seek that out. If we're at the beach, we go for seafood.
If there's no place to go, or we're going to be later in the evening and can't go out (our son goes to bed at 7:00) then we'll throw something easy on the grill like hot dogs or sausages. Chips or some kind of noodle salad or potato salad, and some cut-up veggies and we're good to go.
ETA: Fruit! Can't believe I forgot the fruit! Lots of fruit is prepared at home before we leave. Nothing like a bowl of really cold grapes after getting all hot setting up the trailer!
Other than that, we usually pack at least one extra dinner in the fridge, so sometimes we'll do one of our other scheduled dinners. Really, all of our dinners in the trailer are fast and easy, so we have plenty of options. Even at home, if dinner takes more than 30 minutes from fridge to table, we're looking for something else. We like to stay flexible, and we love checking out the "local fare".

No offense, but I will avoid McDonald's like the plague. It is a last resort at best for us.
But when I was a kid, it was a staple when traveling. I have no misconceptions about why I weigh what I weigh.

Something my son told me about 7 or 8 year ago, "McDonald's. You can taste the apathy."

That's the best! I'm totally steeling your quote.
And I'll add this one to your arsenal, from my SIL:
"I'm so hungry, I could eat Arby's"
Sorry, if you don't know what Arby's is... Fast food roast beef sandwiches. But you can insert whatever sub-edible restaurant you like in the quote.

We have one right down the road from us. It's attached to a Love's truck stop out on the Interstate. You see them pretty regular around here I think. Nothing like McD's, but still enough to have a presence.
Truth be told, I kind of like Arby's...

Usually something quick like hot dogs, but I'm liking the ideas of eating out.
Problem is, I am usually 3 beers in by the time I'm done setup!

Arrival dinner is usually something quick like cold cuts, cheese, veggies and or fruit, maybe chips and bread. Really depends on how we are feeling if we carb up. Unless we are camping with our group and there is a planned meal on arrival night. Last weekend was burgers and dogs and everyone brought a dish to pass. Sometimes it is a local restaurant. It really depends on where we are going and who we are going with. Lots of options out there. if we are really good, s'mores will come out at the campfire...

Another vote for take-out, usually fried chicken. DW picks it up on her way home and puts it in a cooler bag. I don't get home until later, and then it's rush rush rush getting everything hooked up and on the road. Warm it up in the microwave and it's not too bad.
