Balance Tires?

Getting new tires next week...Do you balance the tires or not?

I have always had my trailer tires balanced when new. This should help with lifetime and may detect tires that are poor quality direct from the factory.

Inspect after balancing, if you can't ask the tech who balanced the tires. If one has an ounce or so and the other has several or very big weights I would be suspicious!

While you are at it, insist on checking the date code before you buy. A few months is ok, Over a year, try to get a different batch.

imho being a auto tech for 40 years I did not bother balancing the tires I replaced just yesterday. the logic here is that due to the tires sitting for long periods of time in one spot causes some flat spots to occur. until you drive for some miles the tires will eventualy get round again. also new tires sometimes have excessive runout and the belts or ply in the tires will shift and straighten out after driving. therefore unless you plan on re balancing after a few hundred miles I don't see the point. the orig tires I took off were not balanced so I did not balance the new ones. balance will be ever changing due to storage and long periods of time between uses.

Make sure you lug center balance and not do the hub center balance like 90% of all tire shops do.

update:after a weekend camping trip on new unbalanced tires i can report no problems with vibration and the trailer pulled smoothly without any issues !
