Blackwater flush

We have a new Jayfeather x17z, the past 20 days of camping have been on 30amp 2 way sites. Tomorrow morning we leave for Marco polo campground in PEI and we have our first 30amp 3way site. I am looking forward to being able to flush the Blackwater tank really well before we leave the site. When flushing the tank before I pulled the dump valve and once it was empty to turned on the hose hook to the flush connection. I let it run until it was clean water running through the see thru elbow. Then I shut the dump valve and had the wife watch the control panel inside and once it reached 2/3 I dumped it. I did it three times and i kept getting nasty looking water. Is this normal, should I keep flushing it until it comes out clean? Also my black water indicator never goes to empty it goes as low as 1/3 after I finish flushing and let it drain.

I fill and empty my black tank multiple times when at a full hookup site using the blackwater flush. Then I let it run for 10 minutes or so. I do not have a clear elbow and wish I could see whats coming out.

Yea, tank indicators are notorious for giving false readings. A small piece of tp can render it useless. I usually run the tank rinser once during trips and dump in some Happy Camper between dumps. When I come off the road for extended periods I give the black tank an extra rinse using a rinse wand that connects to a garden hose and can be found at Wal-Mart for less than ten bucks. Works for me and no bad smells. Good luck and happy camping

I've never refilled it more than once or twice, plus run the backflush until it runs clear. While I'm sure it's not "clean" in there, I don't seem to have any problems with smells. I do put about 5 gallons in after flushing, then dump half a scoop of laundry detergent in there before taking it to storage after a trip.

As for the sensors, I am of the opinion these days that they are only mildly useful. The black water sensors seem alright (I, too, rarely see the 1/3 light go out), but the grey water sensors read 2/3 full even when the tank is empty. Not sure what the deal is. It doesn't bother me much, maybe someday I'll check it out, but I'm not real keen on breaking the underbelly cover until I have to. It's been 2 years...

I do the same thing. Dump tank, fill all way full and dump. Usually 3 times with clean water.

Thank you for all the information! As for the Blackwater sensor when it would not go to empty I shut the water off and looked down the toilet with a flashlight and noticed it only had a think skim of water on the bottom, which I would call empty! My main concern was flushing the blackwater. I am going to flush it again and let the built in flush run for a good 15 mins and see how it goes from there. Thanks again !

Keep checking thru toilet so it doesn't run over.........you can actually let it fill (when pressing foot valve) until you see water in drain pipe.

The only way to.get all the sludge out of the bottom is with a toilet wand.

We use this https://www.walmart.com/ip/Camco-Holding-Tank-Rinser/14504325?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid= 22222222227010383838&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=40839147 992&wl4=aud-273067695102la-78652197752&wl5=9007921&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl1 0=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=14504325&wl13=&veh=sem and I drilled three more holes at 90* from each other. Flushes the tank great, and the sensors show empty after a few minutes.

I have been having an issue with my 2017 Jayco Pinnacle when draining the tanks! The black tank will eventually show empty but the two grey tanks never go down lower than 1/3!

I keep my two grey tanks open at all times! I am wondering if the sensors aren't working properly and I need to use a wand in the tank!

Thoughts please

Non-functioning gauges are the norm. All it takes is a small crumb of food to mess up the gauge. So - odds are it's fully empty.

I've found that when camping in hot weather the grey tank can get a little funky and the humidity causes moisture to cling to the sides of the tank resulting in high levels. Filling/flushing the tanks sometimes helps (if you are on hookups) but I tend to just guesstimate how much water we poured down.

The other method that has worked when the grey gets funky/filmy is the water softener/bleach method. Dilute a cup of each in a few gallons of water and pour into the sink or shower. Let the tank fill then drain as normal.

For the black those wands are the best. They'll blast the gunk off off the sides of the tank and dislodge any goop/tp that's stuck in there. I wish there were easy access to the grey tanks to do the same.
