Jim we did exactly that, we went out and bought some reflectix and did exactly what you said. It was really funny since we doubled up our mattress using the other bunk mattress and, when I went to close up the camper, the upper mattress was getting a bit hot at 10 am. As for the ladder, yep the wifey has already ordered it and hope to have it here before we leave on our next adventure up to Idyllwild this weekend. We do have some extra clamps around just in case.

You might want to consider the Reflectix mod too for the bunk end window areas to help with AC/heating.

Got solar blankets from WalMart, adhesive Velcro off eBay and large binder clips. Stuck the soft part of the Velcro to the HTT and the prickly side to the solar blanket. Used grommet kit to re-enforce on the blankets. Leave them attached when I fold the bunk ends up. Binder clips to secure around the edges. I have maybe $30 total for both ends. I've spent and wasted the cost of PUP's on other stuff for my HTT! Do one or the other...the difference is worth it! And get the Reflectix for the bunk ends.
