CPAP and Batteries

Hi again folks...yah I know .I ask some bizarre questions..:hihi: But this one is a good one! At the end of next week we are taking some friends camping to Allegheny State Park. Just yesterday we were informed via email that power was out in the loop of sites were we are booked....no biggie as I have dry camped many times, the issue this time is our guest relies on a CPAP machine at night for Sleep Apnea

....has anybody had experience with this? I have a spare Deep Cycle Group 24 battery and 300w Inverter, and two generators.. here"s hoping power gets restored...

My wife also uses a CPAP machine. Hers is a Respironics. The power module actually takes 110VAC and provides 12VDC to the unit. It will operate on 12v. Maybe you can make a cord for it. Yours may not be able to do this but you can check it closely to see. Any time you can avoid an inverter it is the more efficient way to go.

The machine our friend has is 110VAC to 12VDC as well....just wondering how long it might last on the battery...could always try it here before we go ...

I guarantee it will run longer running straight from the RV battery than it will using the inverter.

I run my CPAP off of a small dc to ac inverter. We have camped 3 nights this way and not had any battery problems. I have two group 24 batteries and we are frugal with the use of lights. I figured the dc use at about 5 amp hours. This means 40 amp hours each night, two group 24 batteries have around 160ish amp hours in them so my total use is 120 amp hours. 40 amp hours left over to run lights and the water pump. Not a lot, but doable.

We run a CPAP off the batteries using a 12v adapter, it draws down maybe 20 amp hrs per night if you avoid using the warmer to add humidiication. If you have a decent capacity battery, you'll be more than fine for several evenings.

Probably not going to be able to get OEM 12v adapter for CPAP before we leave so I think I will hook a second battery up in parallel and use the inverter method...cant find any male round pin plugs around here to fit the 12v female on the CPAP...I will let all know how it goes...can always recharge batteries in the morning with my Champion Genny
