Crackling from one outside speaker

All,

We noticed some crackling from one of the outside speakers on our new to us 2011 23B.

Interestingly, it seem to mostly happen in the evening. During the day we didn't hear it.

Anybody experienced this?

Anybody replaced the outside speakers? What did you use as replacements?

Thanks!

It may not be the speaker so first thing I would do is remove the head unit and check the speaker wire connections. If you can get close enough to the speaker to see the tabs where the wires are connected they will be labeled +&-, make sure the wires are not reversed or loose. One of the wires will have a black strip on it and on mine the - side wire has the black stripe.
NOTE: on two of my speakers (4inside) two of them were switched at the factory and that's just wrong!

Crackling speaker

FWIW - We received our new x18D two weeks ago. Right outside speaker sounded like it had a tear in it.

After further investigation, I found it was the inside wall panel vibrating! Pulled the screws, threw a little insulation between the speaker and the interior wall, screwed back in. Sounds great.. AND its a little quieter inside the cabin now.

Hope your issue turns out to be minor.

I just replaced the exterior speakers on my Octane, The Sony 6.5" ones that came with it had absolutely no cone left on them, the plastic had completely disintegrated. Found a cheap pair of Exterior speakers at Princess Auto and put them on. Had to modify the openings a bit with a dremel to allow clearance, the new ones had a slightly larger cage frame on the back. I can actually get sound from them now..

Ross..
