Deploying the bed in the 17C

Is there some trick for deploying the back bed in the Xport 17C? It's not so tough on the front bed as I can lay-down the mattress pad, which then allows me to clip on the pole to the support frame and push it out. Unfortunately, I have to completely remove the mattress to do the same thing on the back bed. There must be an easier way...I'm just not seeing it.

Welcome,

Mine is the same way. I just squish down on it and grab the support bar and then clip the shepards hook to it.

it is a pain.

Mine is similar and the rear bed is a little more difficult. I reach over the folded mattress an grab the support bar and then pull it up high enough to clip the ridge pole to it.once the ridge poll is clipped it is as easy as the front bed.

Welcome to JOF!

I put a small wire on the support bar so when I collapse it I can keep the wire available. When it is time to raise the canvas I pull on the wire and the bar becomes available. Put the shepherds hook in and up it goes.

good idea...I think I might do something as well.

What kind of wire though?

I might use a string. hate to see anything get torn

Maybe a loop of flat webbing or maybe some parachute cord would work instead of wire?

I attached a 3 foot string on the bar and use it to pull it up. Best thing I ever did!
