Do I need HD Shocks or Airbags on my C1500 ??
I will be purchasing a 2017 X23B this weekend and getting my 1996 Chevy C1500 5.7 L V8 ready to pull it. My dilemma is, what kind of shocks do I need??? I have been researching and I am more confused than ever. Airbags are expensive, HD shocks will give me a rough ride, when not towing. Any suggestions from the 1/2 tonners?
I am not veryl good at interpreting the forum lingo, nor mechanical jargon, so any help in this area is greatly appreciated.
Thank You!

Maybe all you need is just a good weight distribution hitch.

Unless you end up adding a lot of weight in the front of the trailer I don't think you'll need either one. Just buy a good weight distribution hitch. I would do that and tow it a few times before investing in anything else. If you feel like it's close you might consider buying a good bilstein shock or maybe an adjustable one instead of an HD set.

Dollar for dollar the best towing accessory I have is my Load Rite airbags. I use a weight distribution hitch and sway control, but the airbags allow me to keep my leaf springs from perpetually sagging. I'm using a 2500 truck but I often tow different trailers and loads some without the benefit of the WD hitch . The airbags allow me to adjust my rear suspension and ride both loaded and unloaded!
I purchased them on an EBay Closeout deal and saved a considerable amount. You could try that option if you can find a installer.

We towed our X23B with our '03 Expedition 5.4 which is roughly a 1/4 ton and it was fine tho we were close to the Rear GAWR. I changed the shocks for a set of Bilsteins and was pleased. Our tongue was roughly 600# loaded. MPG was in the low 9's for the most part. A visit to the scales will give you an idea how your weights will be.

X2 on the Timbren. Use them on my 3/4 ton now and they are great. Had air bags on my 1/2 ton and I don't see much difference between the air bags and the Timbrens.Timbren is much cheaper than going with air bags.

Thank you all! We are going to go with good, new shocks and see what happens, As usual, I always find the answers in this forum. I'm sure I'll have many more questions as we go along. Maiden voyage & the only trip of the season, Oct 6-9. and we are staying close to home.
Thanks again!!
