Equal-i-zer 4-Point Sway Control Hitch

I am looking at buying one of these and wanted some advice as to the correct size. I am towing my xz17 with a Toyota Tacoma.

I bought larger than I needed because if I ever deside to buy a larger TT I won't have to but another hitch. My TT weight is 4,800 lbs. empty so it could top out at 6K and that hitch # was 10k so I bought a 12k hitch for just a few $ more.

I've been happy with my 600/6000 Equalizer for 5 seasons.

I'm using the 10K version. Tongue weight made it close enough to just go with the 10K for me. I'm sure the 6K would be perfect for you.

the RV Dealer recommended that I go with the next size up on mine as well in case I buy a new trailer. I have a Jayco 23j hybrid and believe I bought the 10k bars

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the E4 hitch weight difference is only in the bars, meaning you can buy heavier bars and still use the same components if you upgrade trailers.

I have the E2 800#/8000# version. Call Fastway and ask them what size to get. My X17C (with Nissan Frontier TV) has about 500# TW and they suggested skipping the 600# and moving up to the 800#. Fastway was very helpful. When I called, I had to leave a voicemail and thought "Great, they'll never call me back". Got a call back within 10 minutes!

With the "Equal-i-zer" brand WDH 4-point sway control (some refer to it as an E4) the different rated spring bars are not interchangeable with the original hardware, a new Equal-i-zer brand WDH would have to be purchased. This is the brand WDH the OP is referencing.

The "Fastway" brand "e2" WDH also has different spring bar ratings available, but I'm not sure if they are interchangeable.

One thing I want to mention that I rarely see on these forums talking about the Equalizer E4 WDH.

Some of the Jayco trailers come with the NORCO/BAL Frame. Maybe they all do, I don't know but my X20E HTT did. The E4 kit ships with 4" Link Plate connectors (I think) where as the NORCO/BAL frame is 4 3/8". So you end up having to fit in a spacer (5/8") to fill the gap to tighten the link plates. It could lead to the Frame Connectors to walk/slip.

The ones that ship can be used, however you need to create a 3/8" spacer so you can snug the plates to the frame to minimize movement. This has worked fine for me last season, but I now have the proper link plates which I'll put on this spring.

Just wanted to post so you have the upfront option of maybe having the dealer ship you the correct Link Plates. They cost me a good $$$ after the fact

Trailer Compatibility

Equalizer Inside Link Plate for 4-3.8" Frames 90-02-5204

Equalizer Outer Link Plate for 4-3.8" Frames 90-02-5374

Great advice! The first year I used the brackets that came with the Equalizer; did notice that there was some movement. Second year I installed the correct plates for the BAL frame and have not had issues since.
Install guide is here: http://www.equalizerhitch.com/pdf/balnorcoframes.pdf

Since I had the dealer install the hitch for me, I'd like to think they used the correct brackets???

Let me ask, where do you shim ? Right above the bottom bolt to fill the gap between the bolt and the frame ? and how thick do you need if its the case 5/8 ? Thanks for the heads up, IM picking up my trailer on the 22 so I want to be ready :-)

I have yet to put on the proper link brackets. I used a piece of hardwood for a shim and it's been fine. I towed it all around the Province last season no problem with the shim. I'll swap out for the new brackets during my spring maintenance. I have to paint the WDH anyway to get rid of any rust that started.
I just don't want to be in the middle of a big trip and discover the wood shim split because it soaked up moisture, then dried etc.

Best price for an Equalizer hitch is RV Wholesalers.com. That's where I bought mine.

Here's a link to their hitches: RVWholesalers.com RV Parts and AccessoriesÂ*,Â*Results for equalizer

Shipping is free. Installation instructions included and also downloadable from the manufacturer's website.
