? for X23B/X20E owners

I am loooking at both models but my main concern is a low CCC? After the unit is eqiuped with options and propane/holding tanks filled it doesn't leave a whole lot of cargo room. We are a family of 5, the size of the trailer would fit us great I am just worried about maxing out the GVWR with gear. We are pulling with a 4runner V8 and not a truck to dump a bunch of gear into bed.

To all you owners out there is this a valid concern or do you think i will be good?

The 23B for us has plenty of room and ccc for us. We rarely tow withfull tanks. I would be more worried a out your tv's capacities.

Thanks Jagiven, how many members in your family? The GVRW for the trailer is a touch under 5k lbs, my tow rating is 7000. I think that should give me enough room to play, no? I plan on using a sway bar/WD hitch like the equilizer, which would give me 1000lbs to throw on my tongue, however that cuts into my available payload so I am trying to keep tongue weight around 500 or so. I have done the math for my vehicles tow rating and i think 5000 is a good number to shoot for.

My TV is a 2001 Tahoe with the tow package. Our TT (23B) is about 5K packed. We just came back from Knoebels campgrounds in PA and the TV did a nice job on some significant hills. The Tahoe has tow/haul mode which helped. Under normal travel, the Tahoe is fine. I would be concerned if we had to climb hills more often then we do. I personally don't believe any tow rating. 7000 lbs might sound like a lot but you really have to put the vehicle weight, tongue weight and TT weight all under consideration.

Two people and a very large dog. Always have people coming with us.
The CCC in the x20e may be a little small for a family with kids but that being said we use the heck out of it and it does store a lot.
The 23b was within the towing limits for us even in the v6 4Runner we chose the shorter trailer because of the shorter wheel base on it.
If we had kids I would get the 23b because of the counter space and the bigger fridge.
Do whatever you like and be safe.

Yeah the CCC in the 23b right around the same, that is what I am worried about. I have towed a 26 foot TT loaded weight 6500lbs up the mountains with this rig, I would not recommend it to anyone haha. Too long, however as long as i kept the rig in 4th i was able to keep 55mph no problem. I may have to get something other then a Jayco I just don't want to cut it to close to the GVWR of the trailer. Aerolite/coleman has a 20 foot hybrid that has a much bigger CCC that i am going to look at.

We do like the X213, no tent ends which is not a huge concern for us, just not a lot of room and with 5 of us and not so good weather we might feel like sardines in there...

Well if you are worried about indoor space then the x20e and 23b have tons of it.
Big rain on our last trip and we had 4 adults, an 8 year old boy and my giant dog with room to spare. The cargo space is limited though.
We keep most of our crap in the camper until we pull into the site and then toss it all out for setup. In that respect it's not a big deal to us.
We also don't have all the "kid stuff" that you probably have.
I should take a video of the x20e full of crap so you can see how much we really can fit in that bad boy! haha

I would be very comfortable pulling the X23B behind your rig. Get a good WD hitch with sway control and have fun. If you're worried about loading up the trailer too much, you probably have additional capacity in the TV.

I tow an X20E with a smaller vehicle, but towed my friend's Roo 23 up to SLC and back from AZ. The reason I didn't go with the X23B is because it was too close to my limits. The 20 weighs slightly less, but I would prefer the 23.

A good wdh is a most! Our 23B tows like a dream.

Family of 6. The 900lbs CCC is plenty for us coming from a pop up with 200#. We tow with a V6 Pathfinder. We travel with empty water tanks.

I tow a 08 23B with a 07 Honda Ridgeline with 5k capacity. We have 2 kids and a Newfoundland. We don't take a ton of heavy stuff, but don't lack for anything either. Mostly tow 2-4 hours, mostly highway, and fairly hilly terrain (NH White Mtns). Other than the expected lower MPG, the Honda tows it very well with high quality WD/ anti sway, etc. We love our 23B. Friends with larger TT's feel ours has a more spacious feel. Good luck with whatever your choice.

Go with x23b over the x20e more storage space for clothes. Fits my family of 4 with room to spare. Had 4 adults and 4 kids (6,4,3,2 years old)
Eating dinner around the table little tight but worked great. After reading around on this post found out alot of people fill up at the camp ground for water so that will save alot of ibs. No big deal to take 5min to fill tank. I do it because the trailer is lighter to tow not because worried about being over weight.

We have an X20E. With 3 adults there is plenty of room and plenty of capacity. However, with 3 kids, their toys, etc, I can see it being tight. Keep in mind that your kids grow. More weight, more toys. Get the X23B and plan to buy a bigger truck in a couple of years. Consider crew cab PUs because you'll want to take your kids bikes too. We've been RV camping for over 20 years and have never taken water in the tanks with us. Even when we boon docked with our PUP there was always a place to get water.

Agreed. We never carry water in the tanks. There is no reason to carry the extra weight when it is available at the campground.

If you are worried about drinking the CG water, then bring a few gallons of drinking water from home for just the purpose of drinking. Another option is to get an in-line water filter.

A CCC of 1000 pounds is a LOT of gear when you don't need to carry the water.

The 1,000# of cargo capacity is deceiving, the yellow sticker on the door from the factory of my 2015 X23B says 662#. We do have some additional options installed/reducing our capacity, TV, power package, underbelly & grill. Recently weighed just over 5,000 at the scales, full tank of water and all our typical camping gear included. We have a truck with an 8' bed that we keep the dogs and some other odds and end in, but the weight adds up quick!

No surprises there. A full water tank, of which the capacity is stated on the Jayco website as 48 gallons, weighs in at 400 pounds. That reduces the allowable non-water CCC to only 262 pounds.

Didn't mean to hijack your thread about the cargo capacity, the 23B is great for our family of 3. We've been out nearly 20 nights in it since we picked it up in April. My wife and I sleep in the front bed and my daughter sleeps in the dinette area with the table down, she's only 4. Plenty of counter space and room for all our clothes and food for our typical 4-5 day trips. Great camper for us so far, no complaints. We ordered ours with the 2" lift, they both sit very low. We looked at 20e when were shopping, very similar just a bit smaller with 1/3 less storage in the back and limited counter space is what we came up with. We traded off a 30 footer so we thought the 23b was about as small as we wanted to go.

We have a x20e, is great for the two of us, however for a larger family I would also suggest the x23B. The x23b has more counter space, drawers for silverware, basically 3 extra feet of living space. You will love the slide, makes a lot more room inside, but still are able to access everything while it's in. Great floor plan in both.
