Frame rating?

I have a 2018 16xrb, and would like to install a frame “weld on” hitch. The hitch manufacture suggest referring to the frame rating before installing. Anybody have that info?
Thank you

I Doubt that Jayco will divulge this specific information, even after it is no longer on warranty...

But maybe... Grumpy can answer

What are you interested in doing with the hitch? Looking at the specs and just the tongue of the camper this looks like a pretty lightweight frame.

Here's how to post attachments and pictures.

How do I attach a file to a post?

To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' page and not 'Quick Reply'. To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread.

On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.

To upload a file from your computer, click the 'Browse' button and locate the file. To upload a file from another URL, enter the full URL for the file in the second box on this page. Once you have completed one of the boxes, click 'Upload'.

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window. You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

What files types can I use? How large can attachments be?

In the attachment window you will find a list of the allowed file types and their maximum sizes. Files that are larger than these sizes will be rejected. There may also be an overall quota limit to the number of attachments you can post to the board.

How do I add an image to a post?

If you have uploaded an image as an attachment, you can click the arrow next to the 'Attachment Icon' and select it from the list. This will be inserted into your post and can be located where you want it displayed.

To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located), and either pressing the 'Insert Image' icon or by typing after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image. You can insert pictures from your albums (?) in this way too.

Frame rating

This is the hitch I’m thinking of using.

Ultra-Fab 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver for Trailer Frames

Picture showes it being used on top of bumper, which I think works Great.
I plan on securing it wit 2-1/4” x 5” square U-bolts instead of welding it or bolting it on.
Let me know what you think
Thanks for explaining how to insert pictures

Somewhere I read when we bought our X20E that the bumper is only good for 100#. It might have been in the manual.

But take a look at the welds on the bumper. I personally would not trust 100# on it let alone 300. If you do this you may have to reinforce how the bumper is attached. These ultralight trailers have frames that are designed to hold just what is built on top of them and not much more.

Yes- that’s what I’ve heard as well. Only rated for about 100lbs. That’s why I thought about this hitch idea, that I will clamp to the frame rails, without support from the bumper.

The fact that the Optional Bike Rack was mounted on the front "A" frame says probably not a good idea. They probably would have done the cargo receiver as an option. Also it can affect handling since it reduces the tongue weight.

So- you’re saying that if I carry an extra 250-300 lbs max in the back, it could effect tongue wt, and handling? Hmmm. Distance from wheels to rear bumper is only about 6 ft. You wouldn’t think a little extra weight back there would effect tongue wt enough to effect the trailer. But I am new, and learning
Thanks

Think "teeter-totter". That's the effect. Put 300# on the back, it takes 300# off the front. It would probably be a little less than 300# as the wheels are not dead center of the trailer, closer to the back. But the idea is that you will reduce tongue weight. Not a big deal if you can still keep 10-15% on your tongue.

Thanks everyone. I think I’ll pass on the hitch idea, and just put the bikes in the trailer instead. Surrounded by 300 lbs of bedding.! Ha ha
Thanks again for the replies

That's what we did when we had our smaller hybrid towed with a large SUV. We used old throw pillows to cushion them. Make sure to put something in between the bikes also to prevent scratching. It worked good.

We didn't have these bikes back then but now that we have a truck we haul them like this.

This is what my factory reps have told me. The act of attaching a receiver/mount to the frame "may not" void the warranty, but any subsequent damage caused by the mounting may void the warranty. Proceed with caution.

If you have the payload capacity in the truck something like this might work...

https://www.harborfreight.com/dual-h...der-69881.html

Or put a roof rack on the cab of your truck and carry your bikes up there. I found a website that sells the attaching hardware much cheaper than some of the namebrand ones out there. If you’re interested send me a PM

Rear bumper is only rated for 100lbs. Mine already had the spare tire on it.
