Front Bunk end Leaking..Pulling Away

Hi All, I have a 2016 X23B and have been having trouble with the front bunk end coming away from the unit. This happened with a few months after purchasing and was fixed under warranty. Now it has happened yet again. This should not be happening with a new camper. Does anyone know if Jayco has come up with a permanent fix?

Can you be a little more specific as to where and how, maybe give us a picture or two.

Is it the left and right hand corners, along the top horizontal bead or is the clear plastic trim with the screws in it and is it split?

Need more info. I am assuming we are not talking about the bunk lid pulling away from the front cap, when closed up. But the tent end material pulling way from the framing. If so, I have had this as a minor issue. I determined it is from installing the screws to deeply and cracking plastic retainer strip. I removed some of the screws one at a time, and added a (#10?) washer, then carefully reinstalled the screws. The washers seam to spread the force over a larger area. I thought about replacing the plastic strip, but it seamed like it would be ALOT of work, The washers surprisingly worked as an excellent field repair.

Even in the biggest storms we never had any leaks, when the canvas pulled loose

This is how Jagiven and I solved this problem. My tent end is folded up now and that's why the canvas looks wrinkled. To answer your last question, NO there is no other fix and I've been to the factory and addressed this issue 3 years ago.

We have a 2017, no sign of it yet. You guys think I should do this as a preventative measure?

Exactly what I did, just used a smaller washer.

Personally I would wait. If it looks as the plastic is cracking, then I would add a few washers.

Well the washer won't hurt and my cracks have NOT gotten larger.

I can't get to the other tent end because the trailer is closed up but on that end I cut out a circle size of Mr. Grip and placed it between the washer and the canvas then screwed it down. Now that side never split and I can't say it's because I added " Mr. Grip" but it was good insurance. I got Mr.grip at Lowe's and it does work for stripped out holes too as the pkg says.

Pictures of Issue

Thank you for your input. When I had the warranty work completed after I first purchased I double checked the screws to make double check they were not over tightened and they were fine. I think something is making it expand or pull away that is causing it to crack the plastic where the screws are holding but not sure.

Thank you for your input. I have multiple places where the plastic is now splitting the plastic.

That should not be happening yet, I'd tell the dealer to fix it one more time, your campers only 2 years old. If they hesitate call Jayco direct and see what happens. Seems like a comment theme on those campers, ours did it too.

Can confirm same issue on my 2016 X23B. Poor design on Jayco's part. Easy fix with washers and more screws.

I've got one doing it as well. Not sure there is a good way to make this part so it won't happen.
If I had the desire to spend the $$ I'd buy a bigger trailer for family outings and keep my 19h only for Colorado hunting trips where I never open the bed ends. I'm just more interested in paying off the house at this point.

It is the clear plastic trim. Front bunk top left has broken completely away and off and almost every screw now has cracks around the screw heads. I just checked the back bunk this weekend and it is happening to the rear as well. Cracks are now appearing around most of screw heads as well. This trim should have never been made out of plastic. It appears to me that the plastic is weakening over time around the pressure points around the screw heads.

Is it possible that the support rod when you are setting up camp (putting the bunk ends out) is causing the canvas to be stretched a little much causing stress on the seam/screws?

We have an older 2009 and our support rod is adjustable. I haven't seen if newer models have adjustable supports or not.

I will probably have to pay to fix them again because it is out of warranty, but will take your advise and add the washers too. I am going to try my best to get Jayco pay for it due to poor design materials. This should not be happening to a 2 year old camper for sure.

Humm..SbPatterson.. I will have to test that idea. The support does not seem tight. I have never adjusted them from how they came set up from the factory. Thank you for your input.

The Tents should have a 5 year warranty.

Thumbs down

Same thing happened to my X23B. Took it back to dealer, they replaced the entire tent. While I was there I went through some of the new units they had on the lot. Out of 5 different units, 3 of them had the same problem. Never been in service, separating on the lot. I would definitely say Jayco has, or had a problem.
