Hybrid specific mod

The problem: To set the tent ends up after tipping out the beds you first have to lift up the end hoop and install the ridge pole. This is difficult because the mattress is folded up in front of the hoop (can't pull the mattress out of the way, it's behind the rear wall), my wife can't reach over the mattress and reach the hoop, sticking her hand under the mattress allows her to move the hoop up a little, but still difficult to grab.
The solution:
I found a 6' peice of nylon strap, installed a snap in the end so I could loop it over the metal hoop and snap it together. When the bed is folded up and the hoop is lying on the bunk bottom, she can now just pull on the strap, raise up the hoop, install the ridge pole and push out the tent. The strap can then be unsnapped and stored away until you are ready to close up the beds. The strap can then be installed and the end left hanging over the bed for next time. Took me about 20 min. to make, made one for each bunk end.

Really great idea, will add to it if I may. I would try Velcro instead of a snap ( just cause it would be easier to put on than a snap) thanks Tslarson

I did the same thing in my 17Z, except I just used a piece of nylon cord. I have been doing it this way for the last 2 years.

I thought about velcro, but didn't have any, but had a whole box of snaps.

Walked out into the garage thinking about a thin piece of nylon rope, couldn't find any, but found the nylon strap.

That is a good idea. We find it easier if my wife sets up inside and set up the outside when we arrive at the campsite in our 17c. It makes everything go a lot quicker as we both know what we are going since we are both accustomed to doing the same thing everytime. We always try to simplify the setup process because it still takes some time.

Tslarson- I did use your idea and it sure does make it easier, although I am a little shorter, I have to stand on a stool to pull up on the strap. Thanks again for posting this mod

Well since I am thw wife I won't comment on that lol but I will add that using the mentioned mod, I also found that I could wrap the webbing around the long pole (that connects to the frame) before slipping it between the folded mattress so that it does not fall to the bottom and is also easier to reach!

I like the sounds of this idea, but I can't figure out how the strap is allowing you to lift the hoop by pulling it from the inside. You need to push the hoop up when it's down. What am I missing here, because I agree it is a pain with the beds in the way?

Rather than reaching under the folded mattress and pushing the hoop up, you are reaching over the folded mattress and pulling the strap to allow you to grab the hoop and clip on the ridge pole. Then push on the ridge pole to push the hoop into place.

Tslarson, thank you for clarifying that for me. I'll have to try it.

We have the same routine as well...cuts down on the bickering too if one of us is in a mood. We can work in silence since we each know what the other is doing.:hihi:
