I hate to ask -- newbie doesn't know where the circuit breakers are

Okay, one, I can't find the circuit breakers on my 23b! Two, I bought a new deep cycle battery and when I tried connecting it I connected the positive first but the negative sparked like crazy! I tried the wires the other way and same thing. So I stopped doing that. What was the problem there?

The breaker panel is the small black box that is under the rear bunk entrance area. Push the cover in and it will pop open. I opened up the owner’s manual and label all the circuit breakers with label maker as they are hard to read, and there are a number of them that are not used.

Was the HTT plugged into shore power when you were connecting the battery(s). The on board power converter charges the battery so that might be why you were seeing some sparking. I always unplug the HTT when connecting the battery. I also have the inline fuse pulled at the battery. The inline fuse is not an OEM thing so you may need to add it. It is highly recommended.

You will get sparking at the battery connections anytime you connect under a load whether power is incoming (from the converter's battery charger) or outgoing (to your clock radio, LP gas/ CO detector). Make sure the polarity is correct, put on your safety glasses and connect away! You can reduce or eliminate sparking by turning off your shore power and pulling either the in-line main fuse or all the individual ones on the 12 volt circuits.

Be advised that charging a lead acid battery produces hydrogen gas and a spark at the terminals can cause a small explosion with enough force to blow the top off your battery and splash sulfuric acid on you!!
