Jay Feather 7 towed with 2015 Toyota Highlander w/tow package

Greetings, first message.

I have been looking at hybrid campers. Originally, I had my heart set on a Rockwood Roo, but it appears the weight is too much for my tow vehicle.

We have a 2015 Highlander, which is rated to tow 5000lb with a tongue weight max of 500.

Therefore, I have become familiar with the Jayco offerings.

I really like the 19XUD, but again fear the weight issue.

Perhaps the 16XRB or 17 XFD would be a good choices.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. I have a GMC acadia with similar limitations (5200 lbs tow rating) . I recently bought the 16xrb and wish the TV had a little more power. It seems to hunt for the correct gear even in tow mode and struggles on hills. Overall, the experience hasn't been bad and getting better as I gain towing experience. The TT is about 3200 lbs loaded. I am not sure I would want to pull anything bigger though.

I haven't been too concerned about weight with the 16xrb as the TV has a 1450 lb payload capacity and max tongue weight of 600 lbs.

This is just my estimate but I expect you will be at your TV's Rear GAWR before you reach either a 5k TT or 500# on the tongue. A visit to the scales will give you your current axle weights which will let you calculate how much tongue weight you can add which will let you estimate a max TT weight. While many people have towed many 1000's of miles over weight, I'm not a fan of it.
The CAT Scale is your friend.

Personal experience tells me that the more margin between your trailer weight and your TV's capacities (note the plural), the more comfortable the towing experience. The closer you get to your capacities, the sooner you'll be looking at larger tow vehicles.
