Jayco 23B Shower

My Husband and I have been looking at the Jayco Jayfeather 23b, off and on for almost two years. We have concerns with the shower stall not having a surround to protect the walls from water damage. We are currently looking at a 2015 model and we are in communication with the dealer. We have asked him about any problems with water damage with no surround and his response was as follows:
"I just talked to my Rep from Jayco and he said the shower has been doing great and the wall boards in the Bathroom have some kind of vinyl coating that keeps them water tight. He said with Jayco haveing a 2 Year warranty if it wasnt working fine they would have changed back by now." We just don't trust what a dealer will tell us, as we have been lied to in the past.

So now I pose the question to those of you that own a Jayco 23B that have no shower surround...Have you had any issues with water damage in the shower, because there is no shower surround?

Thanks, in advance, to all that respond. We really appreciate the info that will be shared.

I just bought a 2014. The shower is the Achilles heel of the X23B in my opinion. I'll be interested to hear the responses you get on this.

I am not thrilled with the dealers response, mainly because I have ran across a new hybrid layout in a 2015 model year that has a shower surround installed. Its a 2015 JAYCO JAY FEATHER ULTRA LITE X23U here is the link for it, to see photos of the surround: http://www.hilltoptrailers.com/defau...iler&year=2015

I don't have any water damage problems at all, but the shower is small and Velcro is needed for the curtain to keep water in. I've also installed an Oxygenics shower head with an on/off switch to make things easier. The textured walls make it hard to put shower baskets on the wall (suction cups don't work). I bought Command Strip baskets and they are great!

We have used ours for almost 2 years. So far no problem with the walls..

We put this shower caddy up and it has held up for over a year.

My old trailer wasn't a Jayco, but it had the regular wall board in the shower. It was in great shape when I traded it in after 12 years. If you're worried about them staining or rotting, you could wipe them down with a towel after you shower. The Command "hook & look" (Velcro) strips to hold the curtain in is a great suggestion!

This was a concern of mine also, but everyone seems to have had no issues from what I have read. The dealer also said about the samething to me. "Jayco wouldn't build itliek this if it was going to cause problems." I found out that Jayco managed to put a shower curtain in that allows the shower water to pass through. Not around the sides, but directly through the curtain. I added a vinyl shower liner.

We had them put a tub surround in for us at the factory. It cost us $250 but we wanted a place to put shampoo and soap and also felt it would be easier to keep clean. I'm glad we did it as I had the same fears as you as well.

We have a 10-year-old X23b with no water damage in the bathroom. We've owned it for a year and showered in it a couple times, mostly just to rinse off after a hot day outside. In any case, it handles the water well enough. My wife can be anal about it and may wipe the wall down with a towel, but I think that's not really necessary either.

Jayco had at one time a nice deep tub in the shower. Then they changed it for some reason in the 2013 models, which we have, and the newr ones do as well. At first, when we used it, we would get a steady stream of water on the floor. But over time, we've learned to do a few things to help. One is when leveling the trailer, I level a little on the high side opposite from where the shower is. And another is to do the Army shower method, wet, lather with soap, and rinse. This seems to help keep the water in the shower.

We asked the dealer if they could install a surround in the shower and what the cost would be, he said they could and it would cost $500-$700. We could install one ourselves a lot cheaper than that. However, considering the responses I have received, I think we won't put that on our worry list anymore. Thanks so much for all your responses.
